What is the difference between Type: Bump and Type: From Bump?

What is the difference between Type: Bump and Type: From Bump in the Standard Material>Properties Shelf (N)>Bump/Normal Mapping settings?

There is an obvious visual difference but I would like to know what they both do if anyone knows.

I consulted the manual but it was of no help.

wow! is that the same bump map and same lighting? Looks completely different. "From Bump" looks way better. I'd love to know too.

Yeah, everything is the same except for that one setting. I agree that the "From Bump" Type looks a lot better there, though it isn't always the case which has me wondering which one I should be using and when (other than answering that question with testing and my eyeballs).
