  • max units are driving me mad

    Hello:

I´m new user of Vray, and i´m tring hard to learn things that all of you have been experimenting since long ago, i do lots of search in this forum looking for tips, triks, and recomendations.

The thing is that i had found several problems when try to aply or render some scenes posted here, and i´m starting to think is a problem of UNITS that make the setting that work fine for some, not work at all to others.

    So my main question is:
Could someone tell me what are the Vray params, that are unit dependent and which unit is the default assumed by Vray so i could translate settings to the units i work (meters)

    Thank you all in advance
    Pablo

at the end of the day you need to be drawing in scale ! mm, inch/feet, metres.... and the same with the vray settings .... if you are using photons for instance and you give a search distance of 20 ..... that could be 20mm ..... or 20 feet depending what your drawing scales are, so you must take this into consideration.

      Natty:

So, for example if someone post a scene of an interior with photon maps, he works in CM, and have 20 in the distance searh param; i have to put 0.2 (i´m working in Metres) to get the same result.
But does all parameters are unit based? i know for instance that the IRmap params aren´t, those ones are resolution dependents.

      Thanks

i solved my problems years ago, i simply always model with real measures, for characters, objects, simply everything.

importing objects, exporting them, using photons, radiosity in max, just name it, i don't have those problems anymore. You don't want to resize a character with constraints and links all over the place

In 1.45.70 all settings that are dependent on units will show the current world units in their input fields.

Noticed that and think it was one of the many nice additions, but would like to know if I work in mm and for my setup say a setting of 20 worked and somebody how work in inches would like to get same results, can one use normal unit conversion calculation to get the correct number?

            Thanks
