  • Dabarti tools: Light Assistant

    Hello,

I've finally finished working on this tool and Beta version is released.

    Main features:
    • Interactively align light with camera position and geometry.
    • SHIFT + drag turns on “Rim Light Mode”.
    • Quickly control important V-Ray Light properties with “Light Lister” like interface.
    • Adjust Multiplier using Exposure Value (EV).
    • Ability to quickly adjust light’s distance from the target without affecting target position.
    • Works perfectly with V-Ray GPU (RT)

I don't seem to be able to edit the original post so I will just update in new one.

I've just released new version with new features and bug fixes.

It seems a nice tool!! Really good! But... I've some problems.

I've tried it and followed your install instructions but everytime I close 3dsmax and I press the button in the toolbar nothing happens.
But.. if , in the same 3dsmax session, I re-run the script, the light assistant windows runs fine. Then I close the light assistant window and I press the button in the toolbar, the light assistant runs fine again.

      Anyone else?

        Hi Bardo,

I've just reproduced this internally and new version is now on the website. Just install it again and it should not happen anymore.

        Thanks for reporting.

This looks very useful. I'm downloading it now.

Can I ask how you approached the light lists portion of the UI? Did you use the rolloutcreator or something more advanced like dotnet?

For the lister I took a lot from the V-Ray Light Lister, which takes a lot from original light lister written at Discreet in 2002 or something ... Anyway it's not the most effective way to list many lights but does the job. I may revisit it at some point but don't know if it's necessary.

That's quite a lot of code to sort through. I never looked into the vraylightlister script until now.

Quite a lot of code, but it's very repetitive for each property of the light... I did remove as much of it as possible... anything that was not V-Ray related.

Great job Tomasz, was thinking of writing something similar but creating a texture inside a spherical map like hdri light studio - this is perfect though!

So this works well with Vray RT GPU. but does this also work well with IPR. I could download it and find out for myself, but just wondering if anyone has tried it.

this works with any workflow as it just places the lights into the scene instead of you doing it manually
