  • Lack of material id and object id channels - can it be done in another way?

The firm I'm working on is thinking about buying vray for revit. However, from what I have understood, there is no function for rendering material id and object id channels. We often use them as layers during the post-production.

Does anyone have any idea why it is not included in the version for revit?
Do you know if there is another way of reaching the same result?

    MJB,

The material ID channel is not currently implemented in V-Ray for Revit, but we are going to implement this feature soon. It is extremely useful and many users have been asking about it.

In the meantime, there is a workaround you can use currently which is to render the diffuse channel in the channel list. This pass just has the color information from the materials with no lighting, reflection, refraction, etc. You can also assign plain colors to materials, so you can re-render the image to get obvious differences. The end diffuse channel will look something like what is below, which will make things much easier to pick out in photoshop. This isn't ideal, but again, we are working on the solution to get material ID's working properly in V-Ray for Revit.

Thank you for a great answer. We will for sure try the revit version when this function is in place. Perhaps even before!
