My question is about a recent topic in a turkish 3d forum .
I am pasting the link for the images.

    http://www.tr3d.com/index.php?id=der...ugin%3E%3Evray

This a plain Vray render no photoshop tricks.
The first image is a photo then a 3d model has been camera matched.
The image has been used as a standart max enviroment map.

There is a single vray light.
    Global illumunation is on.

    Here is the question ?

How on earth those plants appear in front of the model .

    Hi Sux..

there must be post edit in this image, or an extremely good opacity map. but i dont think so.

      Hi sux2bu,

This trick is very simple to do if you know how to use the matte / shadow texture un Max.

In example: first create a simple max scene where you put a image in the background.

Second, put a simple teapot in the center of the scene.

Third, create a closed spline of the shape you wanted (like the plants in the image) and converted it to a editable mesh or poly.

Finally, move the created mesh just in front of the teapot to hide a small part of it. Apply a matte / shadow type texture on the mesh and hit render.

      Look at the result

I have seen the max file.
No post editing nor matte/shadow texture.
Skylight is off in enviroment yet the vray light is set as a skylight portal.
        And this is the outcome.

Even the person who rendered the scene doesnt know how the plants is in front of the model.
He claims it is an undocumented vray feature or a bug.
        Who knows

It is real, If a screen mapped image is used for GI and reflection it will "project" itself onto the scene, if you look closely the old house is being projected onto the new one, it isn't too obvious though. And the plants are semi transparent.

I would love such a feature or a bug

I just belive the model has opacity because of the colour changes on the plants .

And yes the old house is still noticable.

The house does not have opacity the image is projected like a movie on the geometry

yeah. its neither a feature or a bug. its just bad screen mapping. hehe.

I was thinking camera mapping but you would still haveto do some post work to have it project the right image.
