  • need help with lighting.

    hi there,
as the topic suggests, i really need help with lighting my scene. and yes, i have already seen tutorials by natty and iddqd, but the result is still not satisfying.
    it's about this scene:

well, as you can see, it's not lighted realistically, too.. dunno.. smooth and too dark in some areas (thus i use hsv exp. with correcting settings) actually the scene also contains a carpet, light switches, sockets etc. near the windows but it took too long to render, so i hided it for testrenderings.

here are my settings and lightingsources (if you wish i can send you the file to see it better and properly edit some)

i really hope you can help me. the lighting of this scene has already driven me crazy and i dunno what i can change anymore. i already have used global photon map, but it´s not working the way i want

thank you for listening and - i hope - answering.

ok..as u can see u have problems with materials too and that causes the scene to look not so real...
first decries a little bit the multiplier of target direct....
than incries a little bit the vray one....
i would suggest you to use global photons for secondary bounce instead of direct computation cuz that makes the render faster....
set the Irradiance map presets to Custume....incries HSph. subdivs and tick the Show direct light....
and dont forget to incries the Dark Multiplier in the Color mapping because that helps to light the corners i think....

    hope that helps

      hey mate,
thanks for the fast help. i used photons the rendering before but it didn't work fine. i applied some vraywrapmtls to refine the the colors. i'm getting closer. but i dunno how to texture "realistically", thus i don't know what you mean by having problems with materials.

dunno but the table and chairs seems like they dont have any material...the right part of ur scene looks to dark though i cant see if u used materials there or not.. thats why i told you to do those changes and see if they can help improve that....hope that makes sense

ah well, of course - they aren't textured yet =)
first wanted to improve the lighting so i can see the effect of materials. if the lighting doesn't fit, the materials look worse, too. so it doesn't make sense if you first change your materials a hundret times, because they'll always look ugly, when the lighting doesn't fit.

also hoping that this maked sense

am not sure why you've set your Interp samples higher then your HSph subdivs. Theres little reason to adjust the defaults unless you really what your doing. You can up your HSph subdivs to say 85 and thatll help get rid of splotches. Set your Interp samples to about 20.

If you don't wanna futher problems then you have to remember the rule
Vray Light should NEVER intersect geometry and be placed inside of your room

/me shrugs. wasn't aware of that rule either... I dont put my vray lights inside.

is the light source 23,849m or 23.849m?

its hard to tell because of the comma, but I was going to say check the scale?

someone already mentioned this but maybee tick overshoot?

thats all i know, so sorry if this int any help!

is there a wall behind the camera for the light to bounce from?

you might need to check 'render backfaces' to make this included in the gi calculation... but i'm not sure.

That depends on where you live
