it´s valid lightmap to make exterior shots?

Anybody can tell me how it works? Can i use lightmap for a ext. shot?
Or it has the same limitations of global photon map ( only for interior shots)
Second question: What is the best color mapping for a exterior...
Linear or Exponential

Now that Lightmap exists, and it is SO easy to use and set up (compared to photon mapping). I use it for everything including outdoor scenes. It may be a little overkill.... and in some cases, I will use monte-carlo for secondary, but for now, lightmap is my secondary of choice.
