  • Curved Lighting

Lighting is always something I seem to have trouble with. So today I pose a question about how to go about adding lighting to a curved soffit recess. I've attached an image of an example I'm trying to achieve. I've tried using an Emissive material but the effect wasn't right. When I added a texture to the intensity I got the desired look but faint, and then I wasn't able to increase the intensity because of the texture voiding that attempt. Using an actual light isn't an option yet, until ya'll tell me how, because Revit only gives straight lighting.

Can you show a sample or elaborate a bit more about this?

Don't know about Vray for Revit but in other Vray version you can use the geometry inside an area light in mesh mode. For intensity you can start with 1000lumens for linear meter but it can be more or less depending on the source, color temperature depends on the light source as well(neon or LED).
Emitting material(at least in Brute Force) is not as efficient as an area light because of the sampling, plus only Area light can benefit from Adaptive Light.

Unfortunately we don't have the ability use geometry as lighting in Revit.

I'm gonna piggy back off this thread to ask another lighting question. How do I reduce the sharpness of lights without reducing their output? I thought it may be the Light Loss but that had no effect I could see when making adjustments. As you can see in my attached rendering I have hard lines from the can lights. I would like that far more subtle and more ambient. I've tried adding floating studio lights to add lights but I get obvious hot spots, so that's not an option. I've also attached a screen shot of all the settings I'm using.
