  • Chaos Cosmos 3D Model Preview Type

Chaos Cosmos 3D Model is imported with "show whole mesh" Preview Type by default, is there a setting to import this with a different Preview Type?

Do you manually set it each time?

I don't understand the intent to "show whole mesh" for 3D plants and complex meshes.

Hi, thanks for posting. There was another relatively recent thread about the same issue - Models imported as Mesh

This request is logged in our product development internal system. I will now add your thread to the list.

      Hello,

Stable nightlies from today (https://nightlies.chaos.com/#/vrayma...e_6.1/20230803) should have a fix and models will no longer be imported in Show Whole Preview type by default.

      Best Regards,

Thank you for your efforts in responding to the correction.

A nice script has been released to tweak the appearance of the Proxy.

There a few categories that have "show whole mesh" on import as default because they look better in viewport (any other simpler method of representation breaks the viewport shading).

The real question here is - do we want to keep that? Or people don't care about viewport representation when knowing this is a proxy so we can just set everything to "preview from file (edges)"?

A global option for importing Cosmos assets?
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Indeed, with the improved viewport display capabilities of 3ds Max, the abbreviated viewport view may now be outdated.

A full mesh display is appropriate for furniture and accessories, while an abbreviated display is preferred for vegetation. Item dependent.

A global option for importing Cosmos assets is a good choice, as it allows users to choose on a case-by-case basis.
