  • Chaos Cosmos says loading, but not working at all

    Hi Everyone,

Really need some help here as I am pulling hair out.

    Max 2019 and Vray 6.20.02 Build 00000

Started max today and Chaos Cosmos was just displaying a white screen that said loading, but it never did.

I see a few other users have had this issue and have not had it solved as of yet one user also mentioned windows updating prior to experiencing this issue.

While trying to troubleshoot before coming to forum I checked online and tried the following.

    I have tried:
    • allowing in firewall
    • turning firewall off
    • turning vpn off
    • changing to different internet connection
    • uninstall and reinstall chaos cosmos (during this step I accidentally deleted my old chaos cosmos library in Documents on my C drive, so now I don't even have old assets I had already downloaded)
    • stopping and restarting Chaos Cosmos from the standalone exe (the one in the windows menu and the actual exe on the C drive) and making sure to do this as administrator
    • killing Chaos Cosmos in task manager and restarting from 3dmax and from the standalone
    • making sure that cbservice.exe is running during various steps (even with the service running it just wont show anything in 3dmax, just a white empty window saying loading)
None of this has gotten it to work and I am now sitting with a bunch of my work files that use HDRIS that I no longer have access too. This is a big problem for me

I am really in a bind here and need some serious help to get back up and running please.

On a side note I wanted to update my VRAY to see if it would fix the issue, I am one VRAY version behind, but whenever I try to download the latest VRAY build (I am on 6.20.02 and latest is 6.20.06 Update 2.1) the download always finishes (not failed) but it has only downloaded 50% of the file. It is not my internet connection as I have tried a different connection and am getting the same result. The file is only 350mb big and has the VRAY logo like I can execute it, but when I do it just fails. So the file itself for the VRAY 2019 6.20.06 Update 2.1 seems to have an issue.

Please can someone help me out here, as always deadlines are looming and I have already lost a lot of time to this and am now stuck as I cannot proceed without access to the HDRIS in Cosmos and like an idiot I have deleted all of the cosmos assets I already had downloaded.

    Thank you.

    Hey there,

I'm really sorry for your bad experience. I regret to say that, after Autodesk stopped support for Max 2019 with the release of 2025 (according to their support policy), we (Cosmos team) also decided to stop supporting it. Having to support Max 2019 cost us too much effort, so we took this descision.

We understand that upgrading to a more recent version of Max (if not the latest) involves extra costs for you and most probably you don’t get many new features, but we have to admit that 2019 is way too old (6 years) for a software.

    Thank you for your understanding!

      Hi Hristo,

I do apologise, but I am at a bit of a loss for what I am hearing.

My software was working properly about 3 or 4 days ago, and it still is, its just Chaos Cosmos that is not working correctly.

There was no warning that this would become an issue which would have allowed me to prepare for this happening by at least backing up or beginning to make a transition to another workflow.

I have been a VRAY user for years and have supported VRAY as soon as I was able to afford my licence.

I am very confused about what is going on here? This means that there will not be a fix for this issue?

I find it very unfair that you are ending support for 2019 users without making it very clear that this was coming so that it could be prepared for.

I really need to understand what I am now supposed to do. I have an entire workflow that is dependant on Chaos Cosmos assets and now out of nowhere I am being told that I do not qualify to be able to use the service?

Would be awesome - even when it's just a hack. Most important would be, that old 2019er users were left with a working version

                Hello all,

Could you please try to reload the Cosmos UI (or even restart the 3ds Max) and to share the result?

                Best regards,
                Ivan

Hi Ivan, sorry to bother you, I uninstalled Cosmos when trying to troubleshoot and have misplaced the link where I got the standalone version from.

Please can you let me know where to get the installer from so I can reinstall and give it a try.

                  Thanks.
