  • Sometimes comos objects are missing materials?

Some of my models are missing textures - if I open a new project and insert the model - it looks ok - is there something I can do?

If I delete the model in the Vray Asset Editor, and insert the model once again, nothing changes. But if I select Extensions -> Vray -> Tools -> Wipe VRay data from model, and insert the model again, it works, but that's a huge amount of work to reinsert the all the elements.

Can anyone help? It's quite urgent.

        Hello, Jorgensen_cg ,
I assume you use V-Ray for SketchUp?
If you have any project that still exhibits this issue every time you render it, please share it with us for further investigation by packing it (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project) and uploading it via our support form:

        Kind regards,
        Peter

It's very strange - it happens when I enable / disable the Clipper function in Vray. As you can see, when I enable the Clipper, the texture for Cosmos Asset - Nathan Posed 026, dissapers, but returns when I disable the clipper again. That's the only thing I do.

Found the issue - I had to check Camera Rays Only

Why is that - what does it mean?

I am not entirely certain what I am looking at but here is what the "Camera Rays Only" Clipper option does when it is enabled.
Objects intersected by the Clipper that are directly seen by the camera will appear cut.
Other objects that intersect with the clipper but are not directly visible to the camera will not not appear cut. For example, if an object intersected with the V-Ray Clipper is visible only in the reflection of another object, it will appear in that reflection whole (not cut).

The "Camera Rays Only" option, however, does not affect only reflections but also refractions and GI.
In your case, the change in appearance of that object (Nathan Posed 026) is most likely due to the difference in indirect illumination. When "Camera Rays Only" is enabled, some objects not directly visible in the shot (e.g. some walls) will actually produce GI as if not cut.

              Hope this explanation helps!
If you need any further assistance with this scene, it would be best to send it over to our support team. This way they will be able to provide you with more precise advise.

              Regards,
              Peter

                Thanks for the explanation Peter.

Not really sure what and why it goes wrong, but I got it to work, after quite some frustrations. So I don’t really need to contact support. I can send a Dropbox link if like to take a look at it, else I’ll just leave it.

Sure, can take a look to see if everything functions as intended. Please PM me a link whenever it is convenient to you.
I can inspect the scene after the weekend.
