Hi all,
Cosmos integration into V-Ray 5 for Maya is under consideration.
We will update the announcements in this forum when we have more precise plans on that.
Thanks for voting on that request, it will help us with internal prioritization.
Best,
About that it´s only my opinion, VRay for Maya is not behind the rest, it only sometimes goes behind VRay for 3DSMax, (this is normal, the first VRay was created for this program), As a general rule except by the latest update, VRay for Maya it has always been second only to 3DSMax.
well in the next update of VRay 5 for Maya brings new improvements and other improvements that we already know from other programs. I can't tell you anything, just i can tell you that VRay for Maya is one of the few programs they work on daily, I am a witness of it and you will have news soon.
PS: Cosmos is fine to make your job easier, if Chaos needs it, they can count on me to transfer files from Cosmos to Maya. (I prefer to do it manual so I never lose practice hehe)
Thank you all for bringing up the topic, I'm happy to see all the good questions asked here. I'll try my best to answer all questions in this thread.
Cosmos is and always has been in our plans to add to V-Ray for Maya.
We can't really share any specific time-frames, but it's safe to say that we're definitely planning to have it this year. Our goal is to have it out once it's ready, which may as well happen sooner than originally planned.
There's a lot of things already in the works that need to be completed first, before we can fully move on to Cosmos. If all goes as planned, we'll publish information about what we've been working on very soon (literally very very soon), so stay tuned I hope that once we're able to share some news, it will give you a good idea on where we're at with Update 1 and when it's coming.
And finally, а few thoughts on development and what feature gets pushed to what product, when and why.
Some features like the new VFB first come to 3ds Max and are then added to Maya very soon after that.
There's Cosmos that Maya will get a bit later than Max, as we have a few very important projects lined out, like USD support, which we're currently working on and it will come to Maya first.
At the same time, the Coat and Sheen layers of VRayMtl first came to Maya and were later added to Max and other products, just as the VRayToonMtl or Light Path Expressions. There's the new VRayProxy that also first came to Maya, and the VMax team is working on adding it there too.
This is all to say that adding features is not arbitrary and we don't hold them back on purpose. We try to follow a path where we're able to push out a good, stable and usable product, and not simply follow a release cycle with one set of features or another. Otherwise, we'd have to sacrifice a lot of the additions and improvements that our users find useful.

It's high on our to-do list and we hope to have it integrated rather soon.
We'll make a post here on the forum when we have something that's ready to be tested.
