  • Matching Vray, problems with lights and hdris

I wanted to test out Lavina again so I exported one of my recent projects and loaded it up.
First, one vray blend material wouldnt load up - it was just the diffuse color of the material; all bitmaps were ignored.
I redid it with a new vray material and that worked fine then. Dont know what was up with that. There is also part of the ceiling that is suddenly black...
Steel on the chairs also doesnt seem to work...

The big thing that is bugging me though that there doesnt seem to be a way to load HDRIs into the plane lights in Lavina. I am using HDRIs of studio equipment loaded into plane lights almost exclusively and am also using them directionally, which also isnt available. For me, these are crucial options since I am doing a kind of studio setup almost all the time, and not only natural lighting.
Are there plans to support at least hdris in rectangle lights? The suns size is also not changeable, right? I am often going for a softer shadows and adjusting vray suns size for that. I imported an HDRI for the environment since vray sky with sun isnt available, so there is a little difference in the look. the light rays on the wall I found a nice touch so I kept them in Lavina, while they are not there in the vray render, where instead we have a blue cast from the sky.

Either way I would probably have to rethink my workflow when using Lavina, but I am not sure if its doable without the directional options in the lights..
Check out the difference between Lavina and my vray render attached. I quickly adjusted all the lights exposure

Blend materials are not supported for now, only the base material will be loaded.
They are on the TODO list however.

Do you have an invisible rectangle light on that ceiling ? If yes, this is a known bug I need to fix ASAP.

Steel on the chairs also doesnt seem to work...
I don't know about that. If it's a V-Ray material, it should be working. Maybe show me the setup in the node editor or send me just the chair as a .max file ?

Textured rectangle lights are also on the TODO list. They are considered one of the important things to support.

and am also using them directionally, which also isnt available.
Directionality by itself (no texture) should be working just fine. I am not sure what might be the problem. If you can share a simple scene for that ?

In the current builds, there is no support for soft shadows on the sun light.
We will have support for the Sun/Sky system in the next builds. It's already in our nightly builds.
The sun size multiplier is supported as part of that.

I am also seeing some big differences on the black counter top material and the floor parquet.
It will be useful if you can share those setups, even if it's just a screenshot of the node editor.

Is that a mesh light above the plant ?

        Thanks for the answers!

Yes, mesh light. That won't work obviously.

I'll send you the whole scene via email if you want!

So, the material differences are mainly caused by the use of the metalness option in the V-Ray material, which Lavina doesn't support at the moment.
We will fix this, hopefully soon.
