  • Steam Link -> Vantage Mobile HowTo!

    Hello,
I just preordered a Steam Deck and I was wondering if it would have any uses for my work. Long story short, I found Steam Link for screen sharing installed it on my android phone and got it to work.
This might be interesting for someone else, too. So here is how to do it.

    1. You need to have Steam on your PC and Steam Link on your phone or another device (a lot are supportet).

    2. Add Vantage to your Steam library > Add a non-steam game to my library > browse to the vantage.exe

    6. This is my Setup.

I added wasd keys to the move buttons. E (move up) to Y, Q (move down) to Q. In vantage I changed Full Screen to F and added F to B. C (Collision) is mapped to X.
This is enough to move around in Vantage. You can add more shortcuts if you need them.

It would be nice if Vantage had the option to move where I am looking. Then I would not really need E and Q.

    7. I had a problem to map keys to the different controller buttons. Here is the solution.Remapping the yxab buttons for example:

    Click on the input field.

    8. in the lower right corner click on legacy keys and you can map your keyboard to the controller.

I mapped the virtual controller on my android phone. You can map any controller that is supported by steam link.
If you have a good internet connection you should be able to use steam link over VPN and bring vantage to your client.

I think it will be fun to walk around you project on your steam deck. In addition I can now bill the steam deck as a business expense

    Bye,

      Hello Jan,

Thanks for sharing this how to! It is very ingenious

I'm sure others will appreciate it too!

As for this request, could you elaborate?

It would be nice if Vantage had the option to move where I am looking. Then I would not really need E and Q.
Is it something like a teleporting to the location where the camera looks at, similar to a VR controls? Maybe it is something else?

      Best regards,
      Simeon

        Hello Simeon,

I am glad that you like it. Another idea: You could map "Save new camera" and "switch to next/previous camera", too. Then you have a nice method to find cool new viewpoints.

The request means, that a free flying camera would be interesting. A toggle to enable movement into the direction where the camera is pointing. Not only on the same x/y axis but the z-axis, too.
E and Q for up and down would still be helpful, But I would like a free forward movement through my scene.

        Best Regards,
        Jan

It would be awesome to have a native Vantage "stream" option to make presentations on websites, tablets and etc. This way we could run the client on a high-end cloud node and stream it to clients and even offer a service on demand Or maybe chaos cloud can do that later on ?
          Available for remote work.
