  • What of these options will render faster with Vantage?...

    1. A powerful laptop with a built-in RTX 3080Ti GPU: https://www.razer.com/gaming-laptops...-0423PEF3-R3U1

    2. An average laptop connected to the external eGPU Razer Core X Chroma with the RTX3090 card : https://www.razer.com/gaming-egpus/r...-01310200-R3U1

Anyone have experience with these? Thanks.

    Hi cadman5

Option one is cheaper, portable and will work out of box, the Razer Blade 17 is a great laptop.. a 3080Ti mobile is a very good GPU
Option 2 is more expensive, and you lose some performance with eGPU.. you still need a descent laptop with Thunderbolt 4 I think, and it will not work out of box. You will need to tweak some settings.

Thanks Muhammed for your answer. Costs aside, would they be similar in performance?
Or the performance loss of the external RTX 3090 will be so high that it will make it slower than the first option? Cheers.

3080Ti scores around 1300 in V-Ray's Cuda Benchmark and 3090 scores around 1800, so The 3080Ti Mobile is around 25 to 30% slower than an RTX 3090 running natively,
I have tested 3090 through eGPU and Thunderbolt 3, there is a performance hit around 15% or so(I have tested with V-Ray GPU)..
In theory performance should be better with Thunderbolt 4, you might not lose much of the 3090 performance(if everything works)
Realistically the eGPU setup is not gonna work out of box. Some laptops have issues with this, so you will need to do some research to find one that works with the least amount of hassle
There might be issues with drivers and/or windows updates later on..

An eGPU should be your last option, as there are many factors involved. Hence I prefer the easier setup with 3080Ti Mobile..

If you don't mind spending time on having a proper eGPU setup, go for it. You can use the forum if your run into issues

        Best,
        Muhammed

Many thanks Muhammed for you extensive reply. Probably the laptop will be the better option then. I was just concerned the 3080Ti may get too hot and damage other laptop components if rendering an animation, for example. Also figured that since it is a mobile version, the 3080Ti performance could be 50%-55% less than the RTX3090. But 25-30% less performance is actually not bad, all considered. Cheers!

            You are welcome

Thermals should be fine, Razer did a great job with this laptop. the GPU stays below 90 degrees in gaming, something to consider is that Games will push the GPU more than GPU Rendering. For example my 3090 consumes 420 to 430 Watts in games, and only around 320 to 340 Watts in rendering with V-Ray which means it runs cooler when rendering. This is normal
So you will not be pushing your Laptop to its limits on rendering

I agree, the gap between Desktop and Mobile gets smaller every year. It is closer now, and talking about the 3080Ti specifically it is very impressive having this much power in a laptop. It is faster than a Titan RTX.. A few years back I never thought Mobile GPUs would reach this level
Oh and it has 16 GB of GPU memory, more than a desktop 3080Ti
