  • Quick help

    Hi all,

I've been meaning to test vantage (properly) on some real projects we've been doing in 3DS max, however we never managed to get them to run as they would simply crash our GPU's due to lack of memory.

So we reached out to one of our hardware suppliers who have loaned us a 3090 (only until wednesday!) so we can run some tests to see how we get on 1) with vantage and 2) with decent hardware to be able to assess what's causing the issues.

I've managed to load the project in question into vantage and it's running absolutely smoothly except for the fact that lots, and lots of stuff is missing. From textures, to forest pro objects, to simple vray proxies. All of this stuff renders just fine in 3DS max.

How come all this stuff is missing?

    Screenshots attached.

What version of Vantage are you using ?
The debug log may have more info (Help -> Open Debug Log), but generally we would need a scene that we can examine in order to tell you what's causing the issues.

You can check the supported features page too:

Huge number of proxies are being skipped - even though they load fine in VRay.

I'll look into getting files to you, but given we only have a limited amount of time with this hardware (and the vantage demo is ending this week?) I'm not sure I'll be able to in time.

Maybe Vantage doesn't have access to the texture files and the .vrmesh files ?
Looks like the most likely reason for what you are seeing.

The error suggests that the files were found (so probably not a permissions issue) but failed to parse.

Screenshot shows it's on drive "X:" - is this a network drive? Such files sometimes fail to load properly. You could try migrating the files to a local folder (and re-export the vrscene accordingly).

Quite right. Whilst the network drives and such were accessible, the PC hadn't been properly added to the domain. All working as expected now.
