  • V-Ray Light Material & Self Illumination

    Hi,
In max a Light Material will be set to illuminate correctly however, when it opens in Vantage, it's alot darker.
I can increase the multiplier in max with Live Link to Vantage open however, it's not an ideal workflow.
Is there a way to better correlate the max settings with Vantage?

I also get a similar disconnect with Self Illumination in V-Ray Materials.

    Thanks,
    N

    Hi N,

Do you have "Compensate camera exposure" enabled in the Light and V-Ray materials? This option is not supported in Chaos Vantage. Before we add support for it I would suggest to set your intensity according to the desired exposure for the camera.

    Best regards,

Ok, thanks for confirming that. Do you know when it will be added?

I cannot provide you with a time frame but I will try to bump the priority so it gets done sooner.

Any update on when the compensate for exposure option might be added? I'm trying to add simple computer screens to a render, and no matter the setting they are blown out. I am now trying to do a separate pass just for those parts, and the render elements aren't coming out as expected either.

Why not just use self-illumination option and check affect GI.

I only want to the monitors to display the textures applied to them without being blown out to all white or show any shading. I don't see an affect GI button. Even when I set the Emission/Self-Illum really really low it doesn't work. I usually solve this with a single click of the compensate camera exposure option, but now it looks like I'll have to run another render pass and composite it.

Not sure what you're running into, but here is an example of 1. Vraymtl with a vraybitmap in the diffuse slot and self-ilumination slot added to a plane. GI and compensate checked, and Multiplier set to 1. 2. Another plane with a Vraylighmtl with the same vraybitmap plugged in. Same results with physical exposure or none.

Thanks. That is what I would expect to get. Instead my pass is completely blown out to white. Tried multiple settings, exposures, etc and was not working. I ended up doing separate composite.

Interesting... what are your settings in Vantage like? Can you share a screen grab of the blow out?
