The only reason I'm back to using Vray is Vantage. If it weren't for that Corona gives me all I need minus fast. clean animations. I can see Chaos going in the direction of Autodesk, which is not good.

That is exacly how I thought it would be. Get people to move to V-Ray becasue of things like Vantage and Cosmos. However, not for 2X the cost.

Yeah, I feel the frustration a bit. I'm on premium ONLY because I need to have a floating license as I have 2 workstations. I only use Player and Scans, because I paid for them, not because I really need to. Cosmos I don't even want, because I have my own library and DAM system, with a more flexible way of importing (no vrmesh or tx).

What would be nice I think is a modular license where you can choose your flavour of V-Ray :

Basic V-Ray license: GUI+Render (FLOATING, why would you even have a license with a fixed option, most software is floating these days)

        All the rest:
        - Cosmos
        - Player
        - Phoenix
        - Scans
        - Vantage
        - ...

        Can be added as extras.

My premium subscription today got renewed, but have yet to see an invoice. It's a bit unprofessional to see that after a month of changing to another payment provider, there's still problems and a big backlog of tickets.

Just my two cents. But I'm seeing Chaos merging with Enscape, acquiring Corona, Cylindo, AXYZ,... so a lot more parties and people involved, a lot more money that needs to roll and a lot more responsibilities. Don't get me wrong, I know that's what needs to be done in this world these days to stay on top of everything and everyone. But the reason why I loved V-Ray and its community and developers was the close interaction and "personal touch". I don't want to sound old, but I fear this is slowly disappearing into a corporate structure ala Autodesk. Please don't let it affect what made Chaos, Chaos.

I think Chaos is going in the opposite direction as most. Autodesk and Adobe, which are much larger companies, have affordable options. For $50 a month, I get everything Adobe offers. With AutoDesk’s indie program, 3DS MAX is cheaper than V-Ray. Both Adobe and AutoDesk, I am sure, see the writing on the wall with free alternatives. The market isn’t like it was, even two years ago, and people need to be careful about what they spent; Chaos is out of touch with reality. People will find less expensive alternatives and never look back.

An example for me is, I use PayPal as my payment gateway. I used to transfer money to my business account immediately, for a fee, and I now gladly wait for the 1-3 day transfer, which is free. I can’t believe I was giving away many hundreds of dollars to PayPal for immediate transfer. Even if the economy gets better, I’ll never pay to get my money immediately, unless of course I needed it fast.

The bait and switch with Vanatge has pushed me to a free alternative, and I will not look back.

I'm afraid that this business has already been in place for a very long time. It's just a continuation of that model.
Alternative solutions are already a strong response to all this, and we can only hope that these solutions will continue to evolve.
            (Sorry for my bad english)
