  • Vantage Exr file

    HI ,
I'm trying to export the frames in EXR format but I get a different result. I thought it was the gamma but it's not that

I was just about to ask something very similar.

My exr files aren't saving the color corrections, in my case mainly the Filmic Tone Mapping.

Is there a setting to bake in the color corrections, just like in the Vray Frame Buffer?

      Hi visualtracing__,

The difference can come from using color corrections such as Filmic tonemap as they are not baked into the EXR because they clamp the final output. Do you have such color corrections in your scene?

      Best regards,

        Hi suzanne_doherty,

If we bake the color corrections in the EXR it would remove the main benefit of using EXR, its dynamic range. That is the reason why we do not bake color corrections in EXR - they clamp the dynamic range. If you want to have embedded color corrections I would suggest to use .jpg or .png as output files.

        Best regards,
        Alexander

            OK thanks, good to know.

I personally like to stick to 1 file format, and have the ability to save the color corrections, just like in Max / Vray (see above). When I start mixing png, jpg, exr etc, then it becomes complicated for the editing team and other creatives, where as I can just say, "use the exr files" and there's no confusion.

But I totally get your point about exr being floating point.
