  • Chaos Vantage Command Line Rendering Options Removed?

    Hey guys,

it seems, that there were some command line output options for command line rendering with vantage_console.exe which were there in previous versions but not anymore in the new version?
Like "-outputFile=xxxx" and such options which are critical for command like rendering. Also these are not listed anymore in the documentation https://docs.chaos.com/display/LAV/C...d+Line+Options

Is this a permanent removal of the command line rendering possibility or is it a bug? Or are there alternatives to render a lot of vrscene animations with vantage?

    thanks for a reply!

Hi, thanks for posting. The command line control has been removed.
I will try to gather a bit more details on this and get back to you.

        Hello
are there plans to put back the command line control ?
For our work it would be essential, or else I have to turn to other solutions and abandon Vantage...

Don't know why they would have to open a ticket for that but I think it has to do with the fact that (I heard) it will be made available for a whopping 7500$ per year, and they are ashamed of that. Guess Chaos is really turning the Autodesk/Adobe way. But please correct me if I'm wrong, I would very much like to be.

Greetings. The nascent command line capability of Vantage 1.x was removed last year with version 2.0 because we saw it being abused by cloud services. It is now part of a larger Developer Edition with which Vantage can be employed as an on-demand image generator for things like custom configurators as well as rendering services. For what use-case were you using that very early capability? We can probably find an alternative route for you with the current Vantage and/or its livelink.

                Hi
As requested, I opened a ticket and indeed received a proposal for a license at $7500 per year! I am a freelance graphic designer, and it is completely unrealistic for me to get a license at that price !
I just wanted a way to send animation calculations with livelink consecutively without having to spend hours in front of the computer waiting to send the next calculation.
I will finish this project with Vantage and switch to Unreal and Datasmith for the next ones.

Lack of this feature is the main reason We've never invested time into using Vantage on broader scale internally. We need ability to free up artists workstations by offsetting the rendering to render farm. It's not only the rendering part, but also all the automations that happen with the resulting frames.

The decision to remove this seems so near sighted that I can't even believe it came as unanimous decision.
