  • Scatter Fog Quality

Using the latest and I have the environment fog effect set inside of 3dsmax, how can I improve the quality of the fog and stop it from moving? The "god rays" appear to animate/move like bad smoke or something. Perhaps my sample settings are too low? I'm using 300 currently. Are any of the presets recommended when using scattering fog? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for posting. Do you use Live Link or do you export the animation to Vantage? Could you send us your test scene? Could you share a video of your issue?

Using Live Link. Here is a screengrab. This is just a section of a 4k render, 300 samples, high preset. In Max, default fog setting with 2 bounces. In the fog only, it looks bad like compressed or something, lots of artifacts. Shouldn't it be smooth?

Hi, increasing the samples a lot is all that I can suggest here. This is the result I got using 2000 samples.

The image is rendered using the QH render tool.

Hi, sorry I meant the HQ not QH. Here is the docs page - https://docs.chaos.com/display/LAV/Offline+Rendering

I have a quick question about the high quality rendering settings. I saw in the YouTube tut that ligh cache was unchecked. Is that recommended for final renders?
