  • 3dsmax + Vantage: Render animation with chaos Vantage

Is there any chance to render animation objects from max via Livelink or using "Render animation with chaos Vantage" WITH all scene setup in Vantage (sun, sky, color correction, LUT, etc).
I have a lot of still shots made for client used Livelink and have setup of a scene in Vantage loaded everytime using "Open Scene as a Config only".
I need to render shots with exactly same cameras, lighitng etc, but need to add moving objects like cars or walking people.
    How to do that?

    Hi,

Basically, the same workflow can be used, if you have additional animated objects added to the existing 3ds Max scene. Either by adding new layers or Xref scene...Use the Render animation with Chaos Vantage toolbar button and set the sequence of frames you need. The same config file (.vantage) must be loaded before running the render.

Unfortunetly, even if I load vantage config file before render sequence - the settings from file are reseting and animation renderings are going without vantage scene settings (like Sun, color profile etc)

Can you cerate a ticket in our support center about this problem? https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
You can attach your .max file there so we can make a quick test for the workflow.
Also if it happens with any scene you have open (even a simple one) then we can try to help in remote session.

I have this same issue with the "Render animation with Chaos Vantage" toolbar button. I need to configure the lighting (sunlight, fog, HDRI) from 3ds Max because it doesn't recognize the settings from Vantage. It's frustrating because ever since I subscribed to Anima, I can only render using that button, and the viewport becomes very laggy.

Generally the workflow when using Render live link animation with Vantage is to have everything set inside in the host platform (3ds Max). The Environment (HRD) will reset to what you have in 3ds Max. If nothing is set in 3ds max as env / dome light, the live link will rest to this state even if you have one added inside Vantage.

But, It would be helpful to see a screen recording of your workflow and what exactly is happening when you start the Live link animation rendering process. You can send this via our support portal if there is any confidential work.

We typically save out a vrscene with the keyframes baked in. Open in Vantage and go from there. Yes, it creates a large file, but animations work fine.

Yes, it seems that baking is the best workflow for working with animations in Vantage. Thank you!

baking animation to vray-scene is not a sollutions. The files are became super heavy, so sometimes when I work with big exterior scene it could be even impossible to load them.

Mostly my workflow looks like that:
1 Modeling and texturing inside of 3dsmax with lights (lamps)
2 Setting Environemt lighs, environemnt, sun, color corrections, LUT in Vantage and developing the static renders
                  3. Sometimes after static renders client ask to get animations, so I need to render animations with same sets like a static (setup from Vantage)

It would be good, to have an extra switches when "render animation with vanatge" to select what should be synchronized and what not. Easy to develop and very helpfull in workflow for creators.

It should be extra windows to select what should be synchronized with sending the scene to vanatge and between every frame. for example:
                    - geometry (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)
                    - cameras (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)
                    - textures (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)
                    - lights parameters (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)
                    - EVNIRONMENT - hdri, sky (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)
                    - SUN (1st load: OPTION / loading between every frame: OPTION)

Than creator can decide for example:
I have scene in 3dsmax with a lot of animated options like sun position, geometry, positions, animated texture on the humans or tv, etc, light parameters for timelaps etc.
But I wish to sync in this shot via vantage at first load all materials and geometry, and then only sync geometry positions (like cars), camera movment and textures. I don't want to sync sun, hdri and sun power- wish to set them in vantage as a static to render daytime animation.
That would be super fast way to render different variantions of the animations with vantage in super short and easy way.

And bassicly, it's gives possibility to render via live link scenes with envoriemnt and sun set in vantage.

I make super comples possibities, but maybe the amount of the switches could be more limitied.
                    What you think?

mat_olszowy your desired workflow won't work as it stands in Vantage, if you need to bring in animated objects you'll need to either render with Livelink from inside 3dsmax or send the whole scene as suggested by Luma3d. Livelink is only so flexible and yep it's a pain.
