  • Choppy Camera Movement and wobbling objects

    Hi!
I've just finished a project for University and loaded it into vantage to try out.
    you can watch here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRz0fiBzldY&ab

mostly, it works great, especially in live view.(the grass is over 700 000 points populated with grasshopper, and still more than 40fps)

but as you may can see, the video didn't come out perfect. when you come near objects, they start wobbeling around (this doesn't happen in liveview)(the models are made in rhino, scaling in meters. if a add models from chaos cosmos in vantage, they are so small, i can't even see them before a massive upscaling. may it has something to do with that?)

another nasty effect is, that between the keyframes, you can notice a jerky movement.

in blender they may have a better solution: you make keyframes, and blender calculates a smooth curve between the last and the next frame. so you don't notice the steps between the movements.

i know, it's a different approach, as in vantage we have to add a transition manually, but i think it would be an improvement to automize that or at least smooth out the movement between 2 transitions. i can hardly imagine to need 2 pictures without transitioning, and if, it would be more comfortable to remove it, than to add it.(besides that i could simply swap between 2 pictures with premiere or resolve)

just some thoughts, may something of it is helpful.

    greetings

    Sebastian

Do you mean the live link ?

Are you using 3dsMax, Rhino or Vantage to create the animation that has the wobbling effect ?

If it's 3dsMax and you are on V-Ray Next, the latest V-Ray Next for 3dsMax stable nightly builds have fixes for the animation export which might help resolve the issue.

(the models are made in rhino, scaling in meters. if a add models from chaos cosmos in vantage, they are so small, i can't even see them before a massive upscaling. may it has something to do with that?)
As far as I know the Cosmos assets are setup so they come out in real world size.
If the objects in your original scene are not the proper size, the Cosmos assets won't look correct relative to them.
It could be a bug on our side with the unit handling, so a scene for debugging will be helpful, if you are sure you have everything in the correct size.

My colleagues can answer the suggestions/questions about the animation editor in Vantage.

Btw, you can enable leaf transparency from the 'leaf" icon on the toolbar.

-no, i mean just walking around in the scene, like it's a video game. haven't tried livelink yet

-i made the animation in vantage, and the scene in rhino. for export i used v-ray 5 for rhino, latest version.

-i've often had scaling issues in rhino, i know for example if you make a model with millimeter preset and export it to blender, every mm becomes a meter. (x*1000).

Yet, the preset for this scene was meter.
just thought may the size of the model leads to the wobbeling problem in vantage.
strangely, if i add cosmos assets directly into rhino, they are scaled correctly.

-thanks for the tip, the leaves were a nasty detail
