  • Update...YAY! However......

Nice one guys. Thanks for those fixes to the camera, plus the other things of course.
Sadly for me they came just a bit too late, as we have now wrapped up our project using the various little hacks we developed. C'est la guerre!

So, all parameters and animations of those are now imported correctly (save for e.g. F# of 13.182 being rounded to 13.2 - but that is unimportant really).
There is only one issue and it is a small one, but I just wanted to flag it.
The actual 'import changes from Vantage' button in the tray has now broken; however the script itself works perfectly, so can be added wherever anyone wants to put it.

EDIT: LOL. I just noticed that on import, it says 'Import was successfull. Enjoy!' which I thought was a really nice touch
However, Successful only has one L
    I am available as a proof-reader for hire...cheep raytes!

    Hello, fixeighted,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm happy the new build fixes the issues you experienced earlier. It's a pity you wouldn't be able to use it on the project, but hopefully it will come in handy at another time.

As for the new script, there are a few things I'd like to note. There is a version of the scripts that gets installed with V-Ray for 3ds Max. These are more difficult to update, so that's why we have provided a different set of scripts that come with the installation of Vantage. To use them you can create your own toolbar with the scripts as shown in the screenshot below.

Here the "Vantage Toolbar", outlined in blue, is the one that comes with the V-Ray installation. The "Chaos Vantage Toolbar", outlined in orange, has been created by the me and has the updated scripts with the fixes. You are correct - you can place the buttons as you see fit.

    Best regards,
    Simeon

That's cool, thanks for the alert...saves me writing a post when I found that .
      I'll update them

It is a shame we couldn't take full advantage (pun intended) of the fixes but I guess it was partly due to me pestering you all about them
constantly that they were in fact fixed, so I will be happy with that and the fact that it is now even more awesome than it was 2 days ago
My plan is to revisit some old jobs and see what I can do to update them to animations in V.

We're happy when there are users who share how they use Vantage and what is missing to get a desired workflow. Thank you very much for that! I wouldn't assume that a mixed rendering with compositing workflow between Vantage and V-Ray is needed, so the interpolation was not tested in this regard. So, whenever you can share your observations and recommendations, please do.

        Best regards,
        Simeon

Yes it was a valuable exercise (which I'm glad is now over LOL), despite the frustrations, and I'm very happy to have helped pinpoint some areas where there were issues.
I'm even happier that you guys found the time to address them so quickly.
It's a bit of a double-edged sword situation with using beta software on a live project.
I think you only find these issues when pushing something in a way that, as you mentioned, it
was not thought it would be/was intended to be used.

The oddest thing that occurred throughout this exercise was that the bug with the sequence length not being translated correctly, which totally threw us for about two weeks, was
only solved by my colleague, the cameraman, who has zero 3D knowledge and had zero Vantage knowledge (before starting this) who, purely by chance, noticed the frame shift 'only' when viewing it in a the project that contained more frames than the imported camera move. I, with aproaching 30 years of Max experience, maybe would never have noticed that

Vantage is clearly on a very rapid track to become a leader in its field for so many reasons....still some polish needed but it is very exciting watching its progress
