  • Update 6 not rendering animations consistently

Hello, is anyone else having issues with Vantage Update 6 in 3ds max 2022 not rendering animations consistently? Sometimes it will work fine, but most of the time I'm just getting the first frame repeated for the whole animation. I've tried rendering via Live Link using the Vantage UI, and the 3ds Max dialog box, and even when I export a vrscene. In Vantage 1.5.2 I don't have this problem with the same 3ds max project (I reverted back to that version after several failed attempts to render in 1.6.0). I really like the addition of the render queue in 1.6, but I can't use it yet...

Hi. We fixed this issue a couple of days after the release, so the fix will be available soon in 1.6.1. I think we only reproduced it when using the Vantage UI, but it should be the same issue you were having.

Just to add to this, 1.6.1 still seems very bugged with the animation only rendering one frame (for me), also the livelink feels dreadful now, a previous scene now just constantly freezes (this with lots of things turned off), very odd behaviour as I know you guys have been trying to iron out a lot of these issues.

        Cheers,

          1. Are you using the same version of V-Ray for 3ds Max when comparing the latest Vantage and previous Vantage versions ?
          2. Can you send us this scene so we can reproduce the freezing here ?
          3. What kind of changes are you doing when the freeze happens ?
          4. Is it Vantage or 3ds Max that freezes, or both ?

            Thanks for the response Vladimir,

            1. Different version of V-Ray being used now 5.22 instead of 5.21, Vantage also updated twice since last using.
            2. Can't send the scene as too large and confidential.
            3. General usage, so move the camera one frame, not a big lag in Vantage, 3dsmax unsuable for 10-20 secs, I appreciate it's doing a lot behind the scenes so I guess we will have to work within the constraints.
            4. 3ds Max freezes.

I will try to figure a better workflow out later this week when I have some free time, maybe I'm missing something with the new updates, I will have a read of the tech docs.

I've also noticed inside Vantage when using livelink that the lighting doesn't fully match the 3dsmax setup, shouldn't the environment mode have an option to be turned off so as to match 3dsmax? At the moment it has solid color, texture and physical sky, no choice to turn these off.

Previously my workflow was to load the max scene fully into Vantage, this allowed me to change the lighting setups quickly, I was hoping to use the new updates to livelink to start to incorporate animated objects (people, cars, trees).

            Many thanks as always.

Wait, are you comparing working in Vantage directly and working through 3ds Max and the live link ?
It sounds like the freezing is an issue in 3ds Max.
If you actually used the live link before and this freezing didn't happen, maybe try an earlier version of V-Ray for 3ds Max ?

this allowed me to change the lighting setups quickly, I was hoping to use the new updates to livelink to start to incorporate animated objects (people, cars, trees).
When using the live link, you cannot change the lights through the Vantage UI, you can change them only inside 3ds Max.
We might try to enable this in the future.

I've also noticed inside Vantage when using livelink that the lighting doesn't fully match the 3dsmax setup, shouldn't the environment mode have an option to be turned off so as to match 3dsmax? At the moment it has solid color, texture and physical sky, no choice to turn these off.
The results should match 3ds Max, is this not the case ?
When you change the environment in 3ds Max, it gets updated in Vantage if the live link is running.
However, Vantage does not support separate background, GI, reflection and refraction environments.

                  Hi Vladimir,

So I'm revisiting this again a month later and I'm still getting the 1 frame render, it should be rendering 1700 frames, alas it hangs after 1. It feels like it's a problem with the file / scene complexity, if I try the animation with a lot of things turned off it works.

It's strange it renders 1 frame and hangs?

I am essentially trying to add some moving objects to the scene (only thing missing from Vantage being a excellent animation tool), I am doing this by adding a Phoenix fountain, Anima (10 people) and also a moving tree, all of these have been tested and work albeit with most of the other things turned off.

                  Any help as always appreciated.

                  I am using a 64GB A6000 for this, 128GB system ram, AMD threadripper 3990X.

                  Kind regards,

                  Jason

I just tried turning off the moving tree with the .pc2 animation and it's all working fine now, guess it has a problem loading those files (although it has worked before but as mentioned earlier with more things turned off).

                    Cheers,

If you can send us a scene that reproduces the issue, it will be very helpful.
