  • Issue importing cameras from vantage to max

    hi,
First, happy new year to all

I get differents issues when i import VantagecameraPath from vantage to 3dsmax.

    - It creates several new key frames camera, making the camera animation different and unusable

    - In 3dsmax, the freyframes of this camera in the time line can't be modified anymore (ex: when rescaling all the keyframes, the freyframes disappear.

    - by setting 30fps in vantage, the camera remains in 25 fps in 3dsmax, and shifts the animation objects / camera

Maybe, i dont use a good method but i dont how to fix it, and i need to render 1000 frames for a urgent job today.

    Heeeeelp

        Hi eric_barbaron,

I'm sorry you experience issues. I'll try to get help you as quick as possible, but I'll need some information first. Does this happen on a particular scene? If so, could you provide a vantage file, simple scene that demonstrates the issue, or perhaps steps to reproduce it?

Edit - I see the files now. I'll get back to you soon.

        Best regards,
        Simeon

          another issue right now:
When moving time line, exposure value sticks to a strange value like 21 in 3dsmax and 10000.000 in Vantage

I took a look and yes, the frame range adjustment seems broken in the timeline, however you can still adjust the range via the dope sheet, solving that one at least for now.
In the file I'm looking at, the exposure is not as whacky as yours but still wrong, as it goes from 13.041 to 12.541, which seems reversed to what Vantage's settings are.
That is easily fixed in Max by re-keying the values.

            Hopefully that'll help

What version of Vantage are you using? We changed the way animated cameras are imported first in 1.4.2, when we added additional keyframe to better approximate In/Out easing. This had some issues and it was also improved with the latest update 1.6.1 that we released on 16 Dec 2021. With the latest build I get almost identical animation of the camera.

Either way, here's an updated version of the script that will take care of the curve tangents. Additionally, I fixed setting the frame rate to the one from the vantage file. Follow the installation instructions in the zip file:
              https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l1q...ew?usp=sharing

As fixeighted mentioned, the scaling of the keys can be done using the dope sheet, or the curve editor. See the video for an example:
              https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W4O...ew?usp=sharing

I cant change the value exposure anymore of this camera in 3dsmax
Most of the parameters of the animated camera are keyed, so any changes you would like to do need to be done to the keys directly, or using Animate (I do not recommend the latter, since you have to be at the exact key time to update the value)

When moving time line, exposure value sticks to a strange value like 21 in 3dsmax and 10000.000 in Vantage
I believe this is because you changed the "Exposure value" spinner's value in the Modify panel (as opposed to the key's value in the Graph editor/Dope sheet). This will add offset to all the keys of the spinner (the whole animation curve). However, the "Exposure value" spinner is clamped to 21, and my guess is all the keys were offset to values higher than that. As a result you always see the value 21.

Finally, there was a mistake related to the exposure mode and that led to some unexpected values for the "Exposure value" keys. I believe mostly everything (except rescaling using the time range in the timeline) is fixed now, so please try the new script and let me know if that sorts the issues.

Here's an animation comparison using the latest version:

              Best regards,
              Simeon

                    Thanks for the kind words!

I hope the animation turned out OK. I'm curious to your workflow - did you use Vantage to create cameras and the animation? Did you consider rendering the animation using Live link? It would be great if you can share your process a bit more.

The middle key tangents should be fixed in 1.6.1. Just a note - these are created only when using In/Out easing.

We plan a hotfix soon, so expect the improved script to be included in it.

                    Best regards,
                    Simeon
