  • 3ds MAX UI - Render animation with Chaos Vantage

    Hello,

I recently got a new RTX 3090 and I'm testing the new features on Chaos Vantage. I've noticed an error when I press the "Render animation with Chaos Vantage" button. I have the scene loaded in 3ds MAX I open Chaos Vantage, set up the resolution, set the save OpenEXR with render elements option and press render. In the Vantage window every thing loads like the time I render a scene from Vantage directly. Then it asks me if I want to remove the safe allocation memory because there's insufficient VRAM( I have 24GB on my RTX 3090 so I don't know if there is any other GPU with more VRAM than this one). I press ok to remove the safe VRAM allocation but it keeps asking again and again until I press no. I go back to MAX press again the Render animation with Chaos Vantage option, the rendering sequence window pops up in Vantage the first frame loads 100% and then it stops. After that get the error in 3ds MAX that An error has occured and the application will now close. No scene changes have occured since your last save.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't use this option so far, I usually make the settings and render form Vantage directly, but it would be very usefull if it would work properly.
I'm looking forward to your response.

    Have a great day!

One possible explanation is that you are running out of GPU memory in Vantage, which then crashes the GPU driver, which in turn crashes 3ds Max.

I guess you either have lots of detailed textures in your scene or you are rendering at a very large resolution ?

We will be working on options to improve texture memory consumption in the near future.
