  • Camera re-import to Max is wrong

    Hey guys,
painfully created 30 cameras in Vantage which I now want to re-import into the Max scene. The import does work, however the scaling of the camera is totally off. The scene is a city scene, yet the cameras created in Vantage are tiny. It seems they were imported with a scaling factor and/or rotation.

I just checked with a large area scene I have and things work ok here.
My scene units in Max are cms...what are yours if different?
I can see if I can replicate but maybe try switching to cms first...

The scene from Max is set to Centimeters as well. Everything is modeled to scale.

          Hello Oliver,
I tried replicating the situation, but since I don't have enough info, I cannot seem to reproduce it. Could you send me a stripped down example so we can investigate further? Please use simeon.balabanov@chaosgroup.com
We'll do our best to help you ASAP.

          Best regards,
          Simeon

Mail with a link to the Max-File, the vrscene and Vantage file was sent.

The vrscene file was exported 9 days ago and the unit scale in it is meters, not centimeters. This is why Vantage works in meters when it reads this file and the .vantage config cameras are also with positions in meters.

We're sending you a manually edited .vantage file over email. I simply multiplied all the camera position coordinates by 100 to convert them from meters to centimeters. Note that the .vantage file contains other transformations (moved objects etc.) which were not edited, so this file will let you import the cameras into Max, but won't work properly in Vantage.

In principle, you should either re-export the vrscene file in centimeter scale or switch the Max file to meters to match the existing .vantage file. The latter is probably more convenient because you won't have to redo what you saved in the vantage file.
