  • Animating with Vantage now is confusing me

Whilst trying to render from 3dsmax using Vantage UI the settings in Vantage appear to reset everytime you move the camera, so if I set up a new HDRI environment, move the camera in max, Vantage then resets to it's Physical sky, why?

Anyone else notice this strange behaviour?

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

This is expected behaviour. When you make any change in max the whole scene is being send from max and any changes (regarding scene content e g. Environment, sun, etc ) in Vantage are reset. We will try to improve that experience in the future ao that there is better understanding what is going on.

    Best regards,

Getting some very odd behaviour using Vantage, if I try live link it ignores my lighting inside 3dsmax (using 2 HDRI's and uses it's own).

It then resets these everytime if I move along the track bar in 3dsmax. Also after closing down Vantage as it's behaving flakily, going back into max now has a massive delay everytime I move along the track bar again, it's like live link is still active? I have to restart 3dsmax to get back to normal. I think I will have to go back to the old method of exporting the scene as a standalone in Vantage.

I was hoping to use some animated AXYZ people inside max and render through Vantage, this just isn't workable for me, too many bugs at the moment.

Some very basic things are not supported or working correctly at the moment, moving people (in a large scene, not a fresh blank scene), moving cars, phoenix integration (moving water), more lighting effects other than bloom, very inconsistent behaviour at the moment with live link. This may have to do with the scenes being fairly large (1Gb in max), please note lots of things have been turned off on a camera by camera basis, also under testing this new methodology I am turning off most objects, just the landscape and some block existing buildings are left on.

      Kind regards as always,

      Jason

        Hi Alexander.Atanasov ,

Just read your message, thanks at least I'm not going mad.

Do we have another update in the pipeline? It feels like it's going to a bi-yearly update at the moment, I mean it's fantastic already but just needs polishing to finish the usability off.

        Thanks,

        Jason

I think this setting is reasonable for real-time linkage
Because the parameters you can find in vantage can also be found in 3dsmax and Vray. There is no need to repeat two different places to adjust the same parameters.
In my opinion, vantage may contain those parameters just to support that when the scene is completely imported into vantage, it will no longer be associated with 3dsmax. At that time, those parameters will dominate.
But for now. The effect of real-time linkage is in line with expectations. The development that needs more priority is compatible with many Vray functions, such as auto exposure and various functions of 3dsmax, sequence map, program map type, FD, better UI and better flight control WASD

I use Google translation, which may not be accurate, but it is roughly what I want to express
          thank you

Vantage doesn't support 2 HDRIs at the same time.
It doesn't matter whether it's a live link or a .vrscene file.

One HDRI is for the lighting, one for the background only. Either way when in livelink they get ignored.

I have tried only using one HDRI dome in 3dsmax, nothing else, this gets ignored in livelink. It defaults to it's own environment lighting, surely this should be turned off and only activated when you want to override 3dsmax lighting?

Maybe I'm missing something but shouldn't livelink match the 3dsmax light setup now?

              Kind regards,

              Jason

Yes, lighting should match that of 3ds Max when only a single dome light is used. Perhaps there is something in the setup that is messing with Vantage. Have you by any chance used LightMix and you have send any changes that you made in it to Scene?(https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1KFr3...wQbMJdEuLtACDr) Can you send a simple scene that reproduces it?

                Best regards,

Thanks for the reply, no use with LightMix on this scene. I just exported a small bit of the file into a fresh file and voila, everything is working as per expected. Must be a file problem, will try to find out at a later date as I have a deadline now.

                  Cheers,

                  Jason
