  • Vantage Crashes when switched to 1440p in update 1.7.0

First of all, I would like to thank team Vantage for the great work !

I Opened an old file to test the new feature additions. Apparently, I found out that if I switch the resolution preset to 1440p , vantage crashed .
I also tried a fresh scene with 1 cube and Vray Dome from cosmos. Here are the screenshots and dmp file -

Thanks for the dmp file. Unfortunately it doesn't help much. Could you also share the log file? %APPDATA%\Chaos Group\Vantage\debug_log.txt
Make sure you copy it after reproducing the crash because it gets overwritten with each session.

Does it always crash when you switch to 1440p? Does it happen if this is the first thing you do after starting Vantage and loading the scene or do you have to do other things in order to reproduce it?

And have you enabled the option "Edit->Preferences->Safe GPU allocations" ?

      Hi npg,

Added the debug_log.txt in the same link.
It freezes and then crashes only when I switch to 1440p.
I always use live link. I recreated it by making a simple cube in 3ds max +HDRI from cosmos and then I initiated the live link. Everything is fine until I switch to 1440p. It freezes and crashes.
Safe GPU allocations is not enabled. I turned it off a few versions back for some reason.

I just turned on the safe GPU allocations, it doesn't crash anymore, thanks for pointing out.

But safe GPU allocations off, it never crashed before in previous version .

      Thanks,

There are no errors in the log. But you have 8GB of GPU memory and it looks like you were close to getting it full after loading the scene (the log doesn't show the exact total usage but it looks like it when I add up some numbers). Switching from 720p to 1440p adds about 1GB, so maybe this was just the final straw. We've made some changes to the render engine, so it may be using a bit more memory than the previous version. Actually if there are normal maps in the scene it could be using a lot more memory than before when these were not used.

So with "Safe allocations" turned on it doesn't crash, but is there no error message (popup)? Does it work without issues? If so, it may be pure luck, i.e. the memory was just enough on this run.

With Safe allocations, it works just fine, no popups.
