  • Vantage doesn't save cameras in scene

Recently updated Vantage and now any time I open a scene, all saved cameras turn black. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, re-installing previous versions. Nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Using Vray for SketchUp. All software versions are the most current.

    Thank you!

    Hi Red333,

Can you please record a video of the issue or send a sample scene as I am unable to reproduce it?

    Best regards,

      Hello,

Thank you for your response. Before the previous build, I was launching Vantage directly from the icon in the SketchUp interface to open a live session. I would set up cameras, adjust lighting, etc. and save the file. From there, I could open the file either from SketchUp or a standalone session using the saved file. Now, the only way Vantage remembers the saved scene information (Camera views, lighting, etc) is if the scene has been saved as a .vrscene. This is an issue because the vantage file no longer updates when the SketchUp file changes. I also have issues with all Lindale Skatter compositions as they have to be converted from the render only feature in order to save them as part of the vrscene. I'm working on putting the files together for you to review. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue or if my workflow is what's causing the problem.

      Thanks!

        Hi Red333,

I tested and on my end cameras, post and lighting is saved in the vantage file and then loaded correctly. Which version of Skatter are you using? Because there is a 2.1.7 version which in their release notes state: Fixed Render only compositions not being rendered in V-Ray for some users. When you have your project files compiled you can send them using the support form https://support.chaos.com and I will take a look at them.

        Best regards,

Thank you for your response, Alexander! Were you able to achieve this without converting the SketchUp file to .vrscene first? I'm using the the latest version of Skatter. Please note, I'm not having an issue with Skatter. I'm just mentioning that my Skatter compositions would have to be converted from the render only feature to showing all skatter compositions in the model which will increase polys, etc and really slow things down. I'll have to do this so I can convert everything to a vrscene which seems to be the only file I can use in Vantage that will save all scene information.

            Hi Red333,

Yes, I was able to export them with the Render only option and not generate the meshes in scene. I had issues to render them in V-Ray at first but after a couple of turning on/off the composition and restarting the rendering everything rendered fine and exported to Vantage. Don't know what the reason for that is, will speak with the V-Ray for SketchUp team to see if they know.

            Best regards,
            Alexander

                  Hi Red333,

Thank you for the scene. I have looked at it and the whole scene is dark because missing HDR(among other vrmeshes but they are not important for the issue). When I change to another HDR the exposure looks normal and saving Cameras work. Does the render look OK in SketchUp on your end? Maybe some asset got missing and Vantage cannot link it properly?

                  Best regards,
                  Alexander

                    Hi Alexander,

I've tried re-linking the missing HDR but the cameras still turn black, Everything is rendering properly in Sketchup.

I've tried it again to make sure I'm not missing something. The HDR loaded properly and when I open the scene, all scene tabs show correctly on the left panel. However, when I click a camera, it immediately removes all geometry and shows the background only. See attached.
