  • Lack of Texture and Detail in output

I'm really disappointed in the output, compared to the VFB. First of all, any VFB corrections I make, do not carry over to Vantage, even as a separate vrscene export. Secondly, once I do make tweaks in Vantage to get something close, there is a LOT of detail that goes missing, such as the wood grain, and fine creases in the pillow, etc... Sort of like something is going on with the denoizer in a bad way.

I don't see how this tool is ready for production output. Hopefully, I'm doing something wrong...

Low Res VFB on the left, HD output on the right. Eeesh.

such as the wood grain, and fine creases in the pillow
This might be caused by an unsupported texture or material, but we need a screenshot or max scene to tell.

Or it might be caused by different bump mapping.
Vantage applies a somewhat simplified version.
A normal map should however match V-Ray.

It's a really basic material. Oddly enough though, when I replaced it with a lighter material, that seemed "okay" although not like what I'm used to seeing.

One question though: Is it correct to belive that Vantage does not retain any of the VFB settings such as exposure, burn, tonemap, etc? Or am I not understanding correctly? What is a workaround for making a preset that I can consistently use?

      Thanks.

Not sure why there is no diffuse texture in the first version. Maybe the texture is not using UV channel 1 ? We don't support more than one UV channel yet.

For bump mapping, only bitmaps are supported, so the color correct, vray comp, vray edges nodes will be ignored.

Yes, we don't import the VFB post processing settings from the .vrscene, as the V-Ray VFB supports a wider range of options (it has layers which can be re-arranged, there is layer opacity, etc).

To save the post process options, you can:
        - Edit -> Save Scene Settings as Defaults will save all the render settings as defaults when opening a new .vrscene file
        or
        - setup your post processing options in Vantage, save a .vantage file from File -> Save Scene, open any .vrscene file and then load the .vantage file with File -> Open Scene as Config Only...

Are you using the Nvidia AI denoiser for your V-Ray renders? This denoiser does lose some sharpness, but there's nothing we can do about that.

Yes, that's what I'm using. I will take a look at that material's UV Maybe I don't have it set to channel 1
