  • Sunlight animation in final rendering

Hi, I'm not getting a sunlight animation to work in the final output. Although the animation is shown fine if I click the "Play" button in the animation panel, when I try to render the animation, the picture switches to a state that I don't know where it comes from (with no background environment shown). It seems it has something to to with the Scene sub-state, but I don't get it, can't find any helpful information in the help docs.

Is there a trick to make it work?
    best regards
    Oliver

    Hi Oliver,

Can you send us a screen recording of the steps you are making so we can try and reproduce it on our end?

    Best regards,

Hi Alexander, sure, here's what I've been doing:

The file was too big to upload, so I uploaded it on youtube (hidden)
      I hope that helps.

        Hi Oliver,

I cannot see something unusual, this should work. In my test I do the same and it is working as expected. Can you please send us the vrscene and the saved .vantage file so we can examine them and try to reproduce it on our end? You can use the chaos support center with mention to this forum post.

        Best regards,

          Hi Oliver

Thank you for the scene. We will look into it and see what causes this behavior. In the meantime as a workaround you could create a scene state(please note that the 'Create scene state' button creates a state with the defined sub-states in the Details rollout. I am using the fact that the 'Auto Saved 4' environment sub-state contains the sun animation) and specify that state in the Render setup dialog - that should render out the animation correctly: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1_9_a...Ho3V0SBqPne1xr Tell me if it works for you.

          Best regards,
          Alexander

Hi Alexander, thanks very much for your help. The workaround with the new scene state works. Perfect!

For me this happens when your sending an animation to render via live link and using the script. Even if you select the desired scene state, if there’s an environment you set up inside vantage and a sun, when you send animation to render and hit render inside vantage the environment defaults to nothing or maybe the default which wipes your physical environment setting. The workaround for me has been setting up a vray sun and sky inside max then it works as expected. Thoughts?

                Hi carlos_grande,

Yes, when using live link and in the end want to use the 'Render animation in Chaos Vantage' the current workflow is that you use Vantage as a viewport/VFB and not so much as to set scene changes such as lighting. You have to set everything in Max or otherwise you lose the changes in Vantage because the whole scene gets send from Max each frame and overrides them. We are looking into ways to improve this in the future.

                Best regards,
                Alexander

Do you have vray sun and sky loaded in the vray/ max scene? Looks like it's defaulting to a Scene state that contains no exterior lighting. Maybe if you create a new scene state and a sub-state that controls environment and lighting it will render properly. I've been told that there is currently a scene state bug that switches the states to default when saving a high res output.
