  • Vantage 2 - couple of issues - rendering frames, motion blur, scattering fog*

    Hi guys!

    So I have some problems with animation rendering using new Vantage 2.0 (3dsMax 2023 - RTX 3090 - drivers 531.79)
    1. I have 800 frames to render. I did that, but than I have to fix some issues in geometry and I just want to render frames from 600-800. Unfortunately Vantage for some reason render frame 0 (with a lot of motion blur) and save it as 600 and than render frame 601 with some motion blur, but not consistent with other frames and than other frames are ok.
      My workaround is simple I just rename first two frames and than manually delete one that are not consistent but this could be improved.
    2. Not sure what stands for * (star) in scattering fog. This mean that it doesn't work with Live link? I made nice scattering fog for my scene but it doesn't render in animation.
    3. Motion blur not sure why but motion blur doesn't really work. Only if camera is moving really fast or its jumping from frame 0 to 600. Can I change the settings somewhere?
    This are first issues I discovered working with Vantage 2.0 for 4 days now. Probably more will occur and I will update this post.

    Anyway Vantage is a great software and its becoming more and more reliable. Thanks for great development!

    The * (star) appears when you modify the value of a property that has been loaded from a vrscene file (or live linked vrscene).

    As for the live link animation issue, the only option for now is to create a VRayEnvironmentFog in 3dsMax (or other software you are using V-Ray with) and
    use that to control the fog instead of the Scattering Fog properties inside Vantage.

      Motion blur won't work for objects that get re-exported by 3dsMax on each frame, such as deforming objects. Our engine currently can't associate them with the object that existed in the previous frame and got removed in order to load a new version of it.

      We also can't detect when there is a camera cut that shouldn't cause motion blur, especially if it's not a cut coming from our animation editor (we could add detection for cuts there, it's on the TODO list). You can probably avoid it by setting the current frame to 600 before starting a render from 600 to 800.

        Thanks for all answers.

        I don't have any deforming objects. Its rather simple camera move thru environment.
        Now I'm exporting whole camera path to Vantage and I will try to render it without Live link but it takes some time to export it. Mabey it will work that way.

          I noticed also another thing. Simple fog 1 and Simple fog 2 are changing its settings back to settings that were made while using Live link. Regardless saving scene, opening as config or adjusting just before rendering. It always goes back to previous settings.Click image for larger version

            I noticed also another thing. Simple fog 1 and Simple fog 2 are changing its settings back to settings that were made while using Live link. Regardless saving scene, opening as config or adjusting just before rendering. It always goes back to previous​
            Sorry, I don't understand, can you record a video of this issue happening ?

              Which is basically changing the rotation of the static grass geometry using the animation in noise map.

              I just have to remove all the geometry for NDA reason but behavior is the same.

                I see. This particular type of animation is supported only through the live link for now, it won't work when loading vrscene files.
                We have it on the todo list, but can't give an ETA.
