  • 8K Renders

    Hi,
Is there a limit on the render size. Is there any known issue when trying to render at 8K?
I can render the first frame but then, it stops rendering.
    4K seems to work fine.
    Thanks,
    N

I can't think of known issues at this render size. There is a limitation of the NVIDIA denoiser which works up to 55 megapixels, but 8K is around 33 MPx. Maybe you're running out of memory. Are you rendering through live link? If so, are there errors in the maxscript listener? Are there errors in the Vantage log?

6K works fine but when I render at 8K it crashes. I've turned off Denoiser, DOF, Camera Blur etc.. and it still crashes. I've attached the dmp file from Vantage, hopefully it makes sense to you?
The VRam the scene needs seems to be well within the VRam my cards have available.

The dump file shows that this is running on two gpus. Does it work if you use only one gpu?

I was able to reproduce a crash on a dual-gpu machine when rendering offline with the Intel denoiser selected but disabled. It wasn't resolution dependent and crashed immediately after pressing Start. The crash will be fixed in 2.0.1.

If you were getting crashes after successfully rendering one frame of a sequence (i.e. when rendering the second frame) it must have been something else, probably a memory issue. Note that CPU-side memory exhaustion can also cause out-of-memory errors or crashes. And the system resource graphs may show some free memory but memory allocations could still fail if the requested chunks are large.
