  • Artifacts on EXR output

Hi, dear community, I'm experimenting with Vantage but I found this issue.
I'm used to converting .exr linear files output from render engines to ACEScct in Davinci but seems that Vantage .exr files have some strange black artifacts around some object borders (see attachment), the exact same scene with .png output doesn't have it.

Hi, thanks for posting. Vantage does not support ACES for now. Could you explain your workflow in a bit more details?

Won't this lead to incorrect colours?

How do you save your exr files if not using Vantage? What host app are you using and are you using ACES workflow?

vladimir_krastev maybe I didn't well explain the situation.

I'm not working in aces inside vantage, I work in sRGB and save then the .exr sequence from vantage (excluding the tone mapping).
Then I import the linear sRGB .exr sequence into Davinci and I convert it to aces, I know that I don't have the benefit of a wider color space but I also find it very useful to not lose data into shadows and highlight before the final export from davinci.

What happens if you save an exr from 3ds Max in sRGB and convert it to ACES with Davinci? Do you still have these artefacts? Could you share the complete image (not just a crop) before and after Davinci?

Why you need to use ACEScct in Davinci instead of ACEScc? There is a comparison here and the ACEScct has a non linear curve regarding low values. This may be causing these black pixels. It may be cutting the pixel values below a certain point and with the png it does not have that much depth for this to have effect.
You are not using the correct colour space for your render and applying the ACEScct as a "post effect" may produce unexpected results.

          vladimir_krastev you're right, I've checked in nuke and it's Davinci's fault

          Thanks
