  • vantage.exe keeps running in background

    Hello,

I noticed whenever I start vantage with live link or without live link. When I close vantage, I still sees vantage.exe keeps running in task manager as process.

I also use livelink from 3dsmax and click on live link to open vantage. Then when I am done, I close vantage and click on livelink button again to make it disabled state.

Now when I start again vantage with livelink button, I still see old vantage.exe running in process tabs in task manager. Everytime I click livelink button, it doesn't kill old process even if vantage is closed.

In short, vantage.exe keeps running in background even after you closed vantage.

    Regards,
    Jignesh

This is a bit confusing. I will describe what is supposed to happen. When you click the live link button it will connect to vantage.exe if it is already running. If it is not running it will be started by Max and then it will connect. When you click the button to turn it off, it only disconnects Max from Vantage, but it does not close vantage.exe. Also, if you close Vantage while the live link button in Max is active and then start Vantage again, it will reconnect in a few seconds.

We don't expect vantage.exe to remain in the task list if you've closed it from the [X] button (and confirmed any unsaved changes popups). It would mean that the process has hanged. Note that if your scene is large, it takes some time to close it.

exactly, so when I close vantage, it should kill the process but it doesn't. it still remains in task manager.
as you can see in this image. It is still running even I have vantage is closed.

Can you share the file %AppData%\Chaos Group\Vantage\debug_log.txt ? Make sure to reproduce the issue before copying the file, so that it contains relevant information.

There are 3 vantage.exes now. I started and closed vantage 3 times. I opened and changed parameter and closed. Then I did same again and again. I did this by clicking live link button in 3dsmax.
          I also attached debug_log.txt file.

The log file looks normal. "[inf] Closing window..." is indeed the last thing we print. There is very little code executed after that. One of the last things is that settings get saved to vantage.ini found in the same folder as the debug log, but it's hard to imagine this causing a hang.

I don't know how to help further :/

No, I don't think we've seen other reports for this.
