  • Vantage freezes and doesn't save

    Hi!

I hope you can help me, I'm having problems with Chaos Vantage, every time I import a vrscene and without making any modification and save the file, vantage works correctly and saves it, but as soon as I create a camera or change any other setting and I want to save the file, the program freezes and then closes without saving anything.
I don't know if anyone is experiencing the same thing with Vantage?

    Sorry for my English

Hi, thanks for posting. Are you having these issues with every scene even a new simple scene? If this is the case try to re-install Vantage. Do you have issues using Live Link? What host platform are you using (for example is it 3ds Max)?

Check if there is a file named like Vantage_****.dmp in your %TEMP% folder and share it if it exists (although you should have seen a popup message about it if it was created). Also if possible share the file %APPDATA%/Chaos Group/Vantage/debug_log.txt but only after the app crashes like that, because this file gets overwritten every time you start Vantage.

Yes, it happens with any kind of scene, I already tried to reinstall and it doesn't work either.
In Live Link the same thing happens, yes, I use 3ds Max.

Yes, of course, I send you the files you request.

            Thanks for the files.

Unfortunately they are not enough to tell what the problem was. The log file looks normal until it suddenly ends, so no error info there. One of the dump files shows a crash on a very simple operation, so it looks like something went wrong earlier than that but this can't be determined from the dmp snapshot. Only the second dump file p38372 shows something more specific - it crashed while clearing a previously loaded scene in order to load a new scene. We should be able to reproduce this and fix it if we have the scene that causes it (the one that was loaded before attempting to open something else). You probably don't know which scene that is if you're getting crashes with all kinds of scenes as you said. If you can narrow this down to a specific scene and you can share it, use this link to create a ticket and include a link to the forum thread: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

It's always possible that you ran out of GPU memory and this is causing various crashes. You said it happens even with simpler scenes, but is this after you've loaded a larger scene? If you load one of the sample scenes you should have enough GPU memory. Of course close other 3D apps to make sure you're not using a lot of GPU memory outside of Vantage.

Thank you very much Nikola for your reply

Ok, I will send a ticket with a scene and the link to the post.

And about running out of GPU memory, even when I open vantage and load a simple scene from the beginning without having loaded a long scene before, the program still crashes.
My graphics card is a RTX 3080 and 128 gb of RAM.

As extra information, this happened to me both in version 2.1.0 and now in the 2.1.1 update.
