  • Can not scatter huge amount on large surfaces

    I have building area in Vantage which i want to use scatter for the grass. It works good until i have a lot of large planes on which i scatter the grass.Then on some moment the density is getting less and less. The more planes i add the lower the density gets. Raising the instance count further has no effect.
    I use the "use area density" function.

    Is this a known issue ?

    Hi, thanks for posting. You probably hit the limit of your max. instances parameter.

    Try to raise this parameter and tell us how it goes.

      I allready tried that setting. But it is limited at 1000000.
      Is there a way to raise this number ?

        We could raise it, but note that DirectX has a limitation of 2^24 (16 777 216) instances.
        Also each instance takes around 500 bytes of GPU memory, so if you reach the instance limit, you will be using 8 GBs of GPU memory just for the instance data.
        You will be better off with a smaller number of instances where each instance represents a larger patch of grass.
