  • LIve link makes local network unusable

    Hello,

I am having an issue using Vantage live link feature. For a while i was debugging my mapped network to check what is going on, but the issue only appear when i am using live link option.

I have errors accessing folders on network, saving and auto saving get error warnings.

The issue only disappear when i stop the live link inside VFB. So maybe this is related to the port Vantage is using to access assets.

Can i have some assistance and a solution?

I see no connection between live link and file server access. The port we use is 20701, it's in the free port range, not a reserved OS port. We have used live link with scenes hosted on a file server in our office without such issues. Do you have the same problem if you render with V-Ray in DR mode (our live link is a customized V-Ray DR)? Is it possible that the network is utilized at 100% (e.g. Vantage loading assets from the network) and this is why other network requests fail? Or is Vantage idle and no longer loading assets when this happens?

      Hello, thanks for the reply.

No, i don t have this issue using DR on vray gpu or vray. Only when working in Vantage. They are related since it s the only service running and when i stop using live link, it stops having this issue.

Can i have assistance to solve that?

        Hi brunonz,

Has this behavior happened before or is it recent? Have you worked previously from the server or from local drive? I cannot reproduce the issue on my side with and without a mapped drive. Please can you make a test using UNC paths (\\server\\AssetsFolder) instead of mapped drives. As a general rule we do not recommend using mapped drivers for network rendering as it may cause problems. If the problem persists you can use the Chaos Help form with a link to the forum thread: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. to log a ticket and the colleagues will reach out.

        Best regards,
        Alexander

          Hello,

I always had this issue but i believe i made a mistake on explaining the folder structure for you. I do have UNC paths and not mapped. my paths look like this, as mentioned: \\PG-SERVER\Projects....etc etc

          Tks

Just to clarify: there is a known issue that files may fail to be read from a network location due to intermittent network problems (dropped packets, whatever). This is not easy to fix because file reads happen in all kinds of libraries that we use for different file formats.

I am the only person using the network at the moment, i find no issues accessing them when Vantage is not turned on via Live link. It got to have fix.
