  • Vantage has become too slow on startup, opening of scene, saving the scene and changing scene states after upgrading from vantage 2.0.0

    hi.
i had been working on a vantage scene using vrscene. it was a complete project inside vantage.i was working with vantage 2.0.0. . with this version the vantage was loading very fast and scene was working very nicely. recently when i upgraded to 2.2.3 now vantage takes at least 1minute 40 seconds to start and scene loading also is taking extra time to load. also i was getting a lot of warnings and errors regarding textures not loading and other stuff. so i downgraded back to 2.0.0. but now even if this version is taking same amount of time i.e around 1:40 to just start the application and go on home screen. the splash screen loads fast and after that nothing is visible on screen and after 1:40 minute the home screen opens. the scene is loading fine again on vantage 2.0.0 with no textures missing but now the vantage startup is slow like it was for 2.2.3. i tried different driver versions different vantage versions etc but the slow startup problem is not solving . any help. what went wrong here?also to mention the scene l;oading is taking ages, pressing ctrl + S also takes around 2 minutes to save the file. earlier it was 10 12 seconds. changing scene states takes about 15 seconds. earlier it was instant.i am not able to find the reason. please help. see attached video here bandicam 2024-02-25 19-15-19-622.rar

Can you attach or send us the Vantage debug log after this happens ?
It will potentially tell us what's taking so long.
    It's stored in %appdata%/Chaos Group/Vantage .

Have you restarted the computer? Have you checked if some third party software like an antivirus is doing something strange?

No idea actually, it's not something we've seen before.
It's clearly not the specific Vantage version, but something else on your machine that somehow interferes with Vantage.

You should try what Nikola suggested above.

It's not possible to check this from the log.

                  how do i check this?
If you have third party antivirus software, you can check its logs or try disabling it and run Vantage this way.

You can also try uninstalling Chaos Cosmos and check if this fixes the slow start up.
You will have to reinstall Vantage after that to have Cosmos again.

I have been experiencing a similar issue after the upgrade to 2.2.0 a 3ds max scheme that previously exported without issue will no longer open in Vantage 2.2 just crashes with memory errors and writes a minidump. I had thought the model was getting too large and packaged into zones to export smaller files. Still crashes even at 29Mb files, in desperation I have reverted to 2.1.1 and all works fine now?
I would upload the dump file but can't see anywhere to attach anything but a jpg?

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
                    System Type x64-based PC
                    Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900F, 2401 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 64.0 GB
                    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
                    Driver Version 31.0.15.3640

Interested to know if it is this version or if I need to upgrade the GPU/drivers ?

We added displacement and fur support in 2.2.0, so your scene probably generates a lot of geometry and runs out of memory, regardless of the file size. Check if you have fur or displacement modifiers in your scene and try disabling them.

In addition to what Nikola said, it's always very useful if you could send the scene to our support, so we can examine the specifics, even if you are in fact running out of memory.

For the forum, you might have to zip it. Or upload it on dropbox/etc and post a link here.

Thanks Vladimir, forgot about zipping it up. As for the displacement and fur additions to version 2.2.0 are you saying that a displacement map on a brick texture would generate more geometry than the memory will allow? What spec machines are the new features/advertising material generated on?
Do I need to get a £3k GPU to use Vantage, or just disable the new features, or just stay on Version 2.1.0? Thanks anyway for the advice it makes sense that that would be the issue.

We would need to examine your scene in order to tell if it's working as expected or there is some bug.

                              a little update on this.
i reinstalled windows and reinstalled everything. i started with vantage 2.2.2 ,vantage started quickly as usual. i opened this scene in it. firstly it still takes a lot of time to open which is fine as the scene is heavy but still it opens slower than previous version. also its giving a lot of warnings and errors as the scene was made in 2.1.0. so this has been a problem with vantage always whenever i have upgraded and opened an old scene file in new version.
now coming to the main problem when i closed this file and started vantage again t he same problem appeared. slow start of vantage. the splash screen opens fine but going to home screen again taking 2 minutes. so somehow issue is related to scene and upgrade. it cant be a totally scene issue otherwise it shudn't open smoothly in 2.1.0 also.
so how can i send the file to support team and how do i copy all the associated files with it. is there any archive feature in vantage like 3dsmax?

                              thanks
                              H
