  • heavy vantage files

    Dear Vantage team
Here follows somehting I figured out and I want to ask if this is logical to happen or is an error.
So I export a vrscene from 3ds max around 500 mb and I drag and drop merge it to an empty vantage scene.
I select merge in the dialogue
When i save the vantage file is very light, like 50kb.
Then I select the imported scene inside vantage and I move it inside vantage.
When I save the scene it gets 250 Mb heavy.
Vantage file is always fantastic that are super light.
Is this normal what is happening or is it an error.
    Thanks

I didn't quite understand what was 250mb - was it a vantage file or a vrscene file? The vantage files are small because they only contain the changes made to the scene. The actual scene contents are in the vrscene files.

      Hi digital_technologies,

The .vantage file contains all settings and changes made in a scene. So at first when you imported the scene and saved it only the change that a scene has been imported is written. However when you move the entire imported scene and save - all objects transform changes are written in the file and if there is a lot of objects then the file would bulk up. So I guess this is expected behavior.

      Best regards,

Hi digital, what method are you exporting as a .vrscene ? I'm guessing you are doing this manually and not through the Vantage toolbar?

There are two main choices with Vantage from within 3dsmax, first Live-Link and secondly sending the file as a standalone Vrscene, one is very light Live-Link, the other will be heavy and hence a large file size, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Once you are in Vantage you can save the settings file as a vantage format (.vantage), this might be the small file you might be talking about?

It would be good for Chaos to produce some basic workflows with some tips if they got chance, the documentation is a bit light imo.

        Cheers,

        Jason
