  • Camera Depth of field

    Hi,

I used to see fields to configure focus distance for depth of field, but checking/unchecking doesn't do anything. I even tried to restart vantage.
Additionally none of the Advanced settings button works for any other one from that camera section.

    Hi marieanne_malkicduong,

There is currently an issue with the advanced camera settings when Popup dialogs for advanced camera parameters in Edit>Preferences>UI is enabled. We have already fix for it and it will be available in the next release which will happen this week. For the time being you can uncheck Popup dialogs for advanced camera parameters and you should see the advanced settings for DoF.

    Best regards,

On the same topic for camera depth of field, but on a technical side.
I'm using a custom camera movement following a path on 3ds max, but want to add depth of field and using aperture size to create the blur, but 3ds max keeps unchecking that box for every frame.
What is the appropriate VrayPhysicalCamera parameter to activate so Vantage puts Aperture size checked?

        Thanks

          Hi Marie-Anne,

Unfortunately VRayPhysicalCamera in Max doesn't have aperture size as option so it cannot be set from the UI and thus in Vantage. However you can calculate the f-number so that you can achieve the specific aperture size. The formula for the f-number is:
f-number = (focal length / aperture size). If you want to achieve, for example an aperture size of 33mm and you are working with a 20mm focal length then we use them in the formula:
f-number = (20 / 33)= 0.606060. Set the f-number to 0.61 and the blur should match that of an aperture size of 33mm. You just have to use focal length instead of field of view and use Exposure value instead of Physical exposure so that the exposure doesn't change when you tweak the f-number.

I hope this will be a useful workaround for you.

          Best regards,
          Alexander
