  • Vantage: imported vrscene always goes back to its origin despite moving it

    Hello,

I work mostly on Sketchup + Vray + Vantage (latest versions) and my process is as follows: I export a vrscene from SketchUp and open it in Vantage and it works great, superb results. Once my Vantage file is open and set for rendering, I want to import another vrscene into my current scene as I want to add details that are animated or don't look good on SketchUp. I can import, see and move my imported vrscene by using the tools inside Vantage (usually people or furniture). So far so good but when changing cameras and closing and reopening the file, my imported vrscene goes back to its origin ( 0,0,0 point where the X, Y, and Z axes intersect) aligning as well with the original Sketchup file origin. I successfully rendered an animation with new camera (set after the vrscene was repositioned) and it worked. However once I close and reopen the file, the vrscene scene goes back to its origin. I have tried to drag and drop the vrscene and used the Place option to a specific location but the issue is still the same and the imported vrscene always goes back to its orign. The imported vrscenes are from 3Ds Max but I don't own the software and therefore doing anything from there wouldn't be good for me.

Is there anyway I can seal the position of my imported vrscene?

    Thank you in advance.

We know about this issue and have a couple of internal tickets for it (LAV-1246 LAV-1881). I don't know of a workaround unfortunately.

Hello Nikola, thanks for your reply and sorry I didn't see the issue being raised before. This is quite painful but I am hoping you will find a solution very soon. I actually found a workaround using Max and carefully placing the furniture/people into position using Max grid and the position XYZ. I need a few trials and errors in order to exactly place the vrscene exactly but it works eventually. However I am just trying around with a trial version of Max and it cannot be a permanent solution, not to mention a huge loss of time.

Have you tried using a Proxy Scene in the V-Ray Asset Editor in SketchUp ?
You can link it to your animated vrscene, position it how you like inside SketchUp, then export the master vrscene and render that in Vantage.

Hello Vladimir, Thank you for the suggestion. It works in terms of placing the scene in the right place but the animation in the scene is not working on Vantage.

Has this issue been sorted on the latest release 2.5.2 ?

No, I don't think it has been fixed.

I successfully rendered an animation with new camera (set after the vrscene was repositioned) and it worked.
I don't think this is possible, so maybe we didn't understand your original issue.
It will be best If you can start a support ticket and send example files to our support.

The issue should happen only when you have transform animations in your imported/placed/merged scene.
The vrscene animation will override any transformation you made in Vantage.

Hello Vladimir, Thank you for the suggestion. It works in terms of placing the scene in the right place but the animation in the scene is not working on Vantage.
I think there should be a way to make the animation work, but I am not familiar enough with Sketchup.
