  • Advice on rendering night/day-cycle animation

    Hi!

    1) So I am trying to render out an animation from a vrscene file, exported from 3ds max 2024. I am doing a cycle from early morning (dark room) through day and evening, in an interior space..
I have issues with getting this right. I have a 4090 but still the render times are not great.
So much noise and artifacts. In fact the result is better with 10 samples than 10k samples, and I could almost just do a screen capture of the Vantage viewport in play mode.
    Also using this for reference.

I had to turn off the Reduce flickering option, because it gave ghosting on the sunlight from frame to frame, as someone else mentioned in another thread.
What would be the best practice in this case?
In the meantime, I will keep on fiddling.

    2) And also, I might have overestimated Vantage, but I thought that I could animate the lights in Vantage. Like turning lights on and off, at least. In my animation, I would like to turn on difference artificial lights in different parts of the animation. I can turn them on and off in the Lights tab but not animate that. Isn't this possible to do in Vantage? Do I have to animate this in 3ds max and use Live link? That would IMHO give very little flexibility when first having the project in Vantage.

    3) A third thing, I would really like to have animated fireplace flames in chaos cosmos, that I could just place inside the fireplace/oven and turn on/off visibility of during the animation. Seems like a bit of a hazzle having to use PhoenixFD for this, when Phoenix isn't supported in Vantage directly.

    Thank you!

Can't answer 1) without more specifics (images). If you're already rendering without "reduce flickering" you could also try the Intel denoiser. You could also try the Optix denoiser in Legacy mode with "reduce flickering", see Edit->Preferences->Render defaults. What is your driver version?

      Hi chromaloma,

      Regarding 2) you can:
      • do your animation in Max and render it using Live link with Vantage
      • do your animation in Max and export an animated vrscene and render it out in Vantage
      • or animate the lights using scene states and assign those states to cameras in the animation: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c5H...usp=drive_link
Regarding 3) you can submit your request for the Cosmos team in the Chaos Cosmos Idea portal and you can cast your vote for the Phoenix support in Vantage in the Chaos Vantage Idea portal

      Best regards,
