  • It takes up to 10 minutes, from time to time, not always, to start Vantage 2.5.2

    Hi

Some of the times it can take up to 10 minutes for Vantage to start!

I think I know why, but not sure if that is the correct understanding!

I work through DropBox and when I m finished with a project I choose to have the files in the project folder "online-only". When you open Vantage you get a thumbnail list of "Recent projects". I think that if a Recent project is no longer on my computer (Only online) then it will download it before Vantage start. It is like it don't only need the thumbnails, but the whole Vantage scene file available, for all Recent project before it can start!

I think!! but I m not sure about this! Do anyone have any insight into this?

10 minutes is a lot. If shaders need to be recompiled (new build, new driver, etc) it takes a while but usually under a minute.

It looks like you are right. We have code that loads thumbnails, but for whatever reason it doesn't check the file format, so if you have a vrscene or similar format in the recent list it will read the whole file trying to parse for thumbnails.

As a workaround you could save a .vantage file for each scene, so that large files don't show up in the list (until we fix this).

Thanks for answering. I felt it was something like this as DropBox was telling me that it was syncing and downloading while opening Vantage. My Vantage scene files are in the range of 1 Gb to 4 GB so that take time to download and when I have 8 or something in recent files it takes time. Yes, I will save a Vantage file for each and if they are online only then it will go quick downloading. An idea could be to just have some options to not show recent files as thumbnails, or even show recent files all. I have no use for this feature and as I see it makes it more difficult for me too. To be able to just check an option saying "Don't show recent files" and I will be very happy

        Hi harald_martinoff,

We have released Vantage 2.6 and there is a fix for the slow generating of thumbnails of scenes from DropBox. Can you please check if the issues is resolved on your end?

        Best regards,

Hi As such I followed the advice about saving all scenes and then it was no problem, time wise, to open Vantage. I have installed the latest Vantage and will check it out! Thanks!
