  • Animated Water with Vantage 2.6 & Animated Trees still not working with VRAY SU6.2?

    Hi Guys,
I updated to Vantage 2.6 excited to try out the new features and most importantly for us the animated water material. I can get it to come in as a fixed rectangle in Vantage standalone, but i was hoping to use this with live link and add to a custom shaped body of water? I see that Vantage for Sketchup now supports Vray water maps. Is there a way to get the water to move/animate per the 2.6 launch video. I appreciate this was demostrated using a pheonix water material but i was hoping this would be supported through SU as well with similar functionality?

I also tried using the animated water shader for SU Vray all the way back from Vray version 3.6.0.2. Doesnt work because the displacement is handled differently from back then and in Vantage.

I also wanted to see when animated trees would be supported with SU live link? Currently I have to use a script that was provided on this forum back in May to get them to jiggle. We were told it would be included in the next update of VRay for SU but this didnt happen on the 6.2 update in Sept. (or if it did it is still not working!) I really hope that Vantage continues to be developed with SU support as its a fantastic accompanying software which we have embraced fully within our studio for Arch Viz renders and Animation.

    Thanks again.

    Hi NRH1981,

The water surface object is a Vantage object only and can be used only in Vantage standalone and not in Live Link. I would suggest you to set your scene in Live link and when everything is finished export a vrscene, open it in Vantage and add the water surface object. If the rectangle is not suitable for the area you need it, you can use the Clipper object and cut the necessary shape, note that you would need to export an additional object to use as a clipper mesh.

I also tried using the animated water shader for SU Vray all the way back from Vray version 3.6.0.2. Doesnt work because the displacement is handled differently from back then and in Vantage.
How are you setting the displacement? In my setup I do the following(https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z_E...p=drive_link):
    1. Select my object and add displacement to it.
    2. Add the water texture as displacement map
    3. Modify the height multiplier and tiling
    4. Export a vrscene with animation(I already had 2 scenes created and setup the animation length)
I also wanted to see when animated trees would be supported with SU live link?
This will be available in the V-Ray 7 release. For more info about time frame when it will be released you can ask on the V-Ray for SketchUp forum section.

    Best regards,
    Alexander

      Hi Alexander,
thank you for this reply, much appreciated. I have tried the animated displacement method before but cannot get the exported animated displacement map to loop? It works for the no. of frames exported but won’t loop. Would love to get this working so I can use the same principles for animated flames, especially with the new opacity support.
      can you suggest anything?

        Hi Alexander,
I viewed your G-Drive link and can replicate the scene up to the point where you export the animated water.

When I have set up an animated sequence with Vray in the past with numbered images (in sequence) I have to select the 'sequence slider' to get the Advanced Animation settings in Vray Asset Editor to appear.
As I understand, the Vray Water texture is animated by default so I cannot get this to appear.

I'm sorry if i'm missing something obvious, but how to do setup stage 4 of your workflow to achieve the animated water.

Also on a side note, what is the key shortcut to only view the vantage render window without the UI present?

Thank you for all your assistance.

          Hi Neil,

This I think is a limitation in V-Ray for SketchUp and the loop option doens't work in V-Ray as well. I would recommend you ask on the V-Ray for SketchUp forum for further details.

There is nothing special about my setup. Here is a video that shows the entire process of creating the water material in SketchUp, setting the animation and opening it in Vantage: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18o5...usp=drive_link
The only thing that I can think of is that Update deforming meshes button is not enabled.

Also on a side note, what is the key shortcut to only view the vantage render window without the UI present?
By default is Ctrl+` but it is map-able and you can see it in the Mouse and Key shortcuts dialog(Edit menu->Mouse and Key shortcuts): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_ob...usp=drive_link

          Best regards,
          Alexander
