  • Animated object - frames jump

Another issue with vantage. I have multiple interior scenes set up in vantage on the timeline. In one of the interiors I have a animated curtain (100 frames). The issue is that the animation jumps at frame 3 without reason.

    Hi garipodelu,

By 'the frame jumps' do you mean the camera zooms in/out or something else and are you using the latest 2.6.2 release or prior?

      Hi Alexander,

I'm using the latest Vantage 2.6.2
The camera has no issue. After some further testing I think I found out what the problem is. Imagine I have 4 sequences 1-2-3-4. These are added on the timeline so that I can render them using the render queue. Sequence 4 is the one with the animated curtain, all sequences are 100 frames. After rendering I noticed that the camera movement is ok so no issue there but the curtain animation was offset. The curtain was simulated in max so the animation is not loopable so that is way I said that it "jumps". It's like instead of playing the curtain animation from frame 0 to 100 it starts from frame 90 to 10. The issue is the position on the timeline. If I move this sequence first on the timeline the curtain is rendering ok. This is a big issue because this means we have to split the file and cannot use the render queue. We noticed same behaviour with some animated trees in our exterior pre-viz renderings and I suspect it's the same problem.
I hope I was clear enough in explaining now.
Also please check out my other post from yesterday about some UI/UX issues we encountered that really need to be addressed.

Yes this is exactly what it's happening and it is expected as there is currently no way to offset imported animation and Vantage renders for the current frame what is set in the vrscene. We plan to improve such behavior in the future but cannot say when it will be available. I have just answered your precious post as best as I could.

          Thanks Alexander,

I need to test this but I think I understand why it happens. The curtain animation was exported from max using the default timeline 0-100 so in fact is 101 frames. So if I understand correctly placing the sequence, let's say, third on the timeline, the curtain animation will have an offset of 3 frames. If this is the case I believe that exporting the curtain animation from 0-99 should work.

LE: indeed after testing this it turns out that was the issue.
