  • Why does the gi...

Flicker in Vantage while using LiveLink? like it's stuck in a loop and doesn't clean up? I would include a video of what's happening, but I'm not allowed to included a mp4 file.

You could upload your video to a file hosting service and link to that.

If you're seeing noise you must have disabled the denoiser. If the denoiser type was DLSS it could do what you describe because DLSS takes a single sampling pass as input and we don't accumulate the samples. (This is also why DLSS can't be used for "offline" rendering)

No DLSS.. just the Vantage denoiser. Yes... I always turn off denoiser while working, however, it always res' up vs flickering in a loop.

res' up vs flickering in a loop.
I don't know what this means.

A video properly showing the issue would be helpful. If it is not DLSS then it could be something in Max constantly sending scene updates and resetting the render. Does the noise clean up once you stop live link?

The video is just 240p so I can't see much. Do you have animated vegetation in the scene (Wind->Affect vegetation)? This could also cause the render to reset continuously. If not then I think it could be some issue with the 3dsmax exporter sending updates all the time, but this is speculative. No other ideas.

You see it flickering?... that's gi stuck in a loop and never resolves.

Yes, this is the sampling for the whole image getting reset, not specifically GI. There are several things that could reset sampling, like DLSS which we ruled out, and scene changes that could arrive through live link. Or looping animations inside Vantage like the new wind animation I asked about.

I'll check to see if wind is on. Happening to a second project. Stops flickering when Live link is turned off. Then the sampling cleans up as normal over time.

No wind effects on, no dlss on, sample looping continue while on livelink. Stop livelink and Vantage sampling cleans up like normal.

Does this happen with specific scenes or with any scene, like our sample scenes? If it is scene specific please create a ticket and share the scene there so we can investigate: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I just saw the other thread - what happens if you render with V-Ray GPU IPR?

I just figured out the there seems to be an issue with the camera tilt correction in 3ds MAX and live link. Once I turn it off in MAX and make sure everything is set at zero, Vantage works correctly.

Thanks for the info! I tried reproducing this with a basic teapot scene and both V-Ray and Max native physical cameras with automatic tilt correction, but I couldn't reproduce the issue.
