I have an extremely frustrating issue with Vantage currently. I have a project that uses 3DS Max scene animation. I am not using any Max Cameras or any Max Camera animation info. I am using Vantage as a stand-alone. I started a project and had multiple crashes last night. I started saving very often. I was able to run a full 23 second test render. I went to load the scene and run a final render this morning, and none of the Camera animations I laid out last night were saved. The strange thing is it kept all the Cameras I created and a partial amount of the Camera animations. It may be the Camera animations only up to the first crash. I had to recreate all the animations and have tried saving using Save As and Save Scene. None of which add any of the new animation info past that initial animation that loads with the scene. Is there something I'm missing? Why won't any of my new Camera animation info save? It also constantly crashes when dragging a Camera into the animation timeline. Let me know what you need to help me get this sussed out. Thank you.

I don't think we've heard of a crash when dragging a camera to the timeline, so it could be something scene specific. If it is possible, please create a ticket and share the scene (with assets) here, so that we can reproduce the issue: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Also, if the crash created dump files please send those as well. They are saved to %TEMP%/Vantage_b****_p****.dmp. Another useful source of info is the debug_log.txt file located in %APPDATA%/Chaos/Vantage. Note that it gets wiped every time you run Vantage, so you need to copy it after a crash.
Are all the crashes related to actions with cameras? Are you close to using all your VRAM?
You could try rolling back to a slightly older version like 2.5. Pin pointing a version where the crash starts occurring can also help find the cause.Nikola Goranov

It's not just the crashing, it's the fact that it is not saving any new Camera animation that I add to the scene in Vantage. I had to spend an hour rebuilding the Camera animations and timing after saving multiple times the night before. Even now it will not save the info. The crashing happens when adding a Camera after deleting transitions and then adding a Camera back into the timeline. I was able to re-build my scene and render out a final for my client. If I get time I'll try and look for the issue or I may go with Unreal since I've not had any of those issues there. I wish this workflow would be less buggy as it's very convenient, but the time loss on issues like this makes it a moot point. I have an RTX 4090 with 24GB of ram and the scene only has maybe 10 pieces of geometry that are basically planes with no subdivs. However I am using Chaos Scatter, but that is not very big either. I don't have the time to roll back and investigate issues. I'll see about uploading the scene for you to look at. Thanks.

The crash and the failure to save are likely to be related and fixing one could fix the other. We need to reproduce the issue in order to fix it. Crashes are of highest priority to us, of course.
Are you using scene states with those cameras? Are you using Vantage 2.6.2?Nikola Goranov

I forgot to ask. I statrted this project as a Live link between Max and Vantage, I have animation from Max (no Camera animation) and setup Cameras based on an initial static Camera from Max. Once I got the live link established in Vantage, I setup a cpl of initial Camera moves, I then saved as, Continued working and then got a crash. I reopened as a live link, but had to disengage live link to open the saved file and then continued from there within Vantage only. No Live link. Could this be the problem? I am not using Scene States and I have the most current version 2.6.2 My save file size is only 228kb seems pretty small considering the Max file is 1,619 KBLast edited by ken_hitsman; 23-01-2025, 09:18 AM.

I just exported the scene from Max to Vantage as a Static VR Scene. I added a few cameras, adjusted the transitions and saved out. Seems to be fine. My guess is the initial crash must've corrupted something in the core part of the scene file, so every subsequent save did nothing. I will see if I can get it to crash and report back. TY.
